well we are just adding them to a virutal stable for right now. I did pick the sale topper, but winning brownie points in your own game isnt much fun.

After tonights' session someone has to pick a pin-hooking prospect for the 2012 juvey sales!

honestly the real winners are those who bred to Bernardini his first season and those babies are selling like mad!

I seem to have overlooked the power of Bernardini!! At least I was able to get in on the craze with my 6th choice!

I did, however, select #56 as a co-sale topper.
I wish I had seen the videos before I made my selections.

As my hip #147 was an out, I'm dipping down to the 6th choice to get my top 5.

I ended up:
146 - $ 550,000
56 - $1,200,000
111 - $ 775,000
22 - $ 450,000
60 - $ 600,000

now, did anyone actually see the yearlings? What was up with hip #157? Not the most commercial sire, but certainly a very talented 1/2 sister. Not sold at $95,000 seems impossible unless there was something very wrong with her.

I skipped Book 1 and went to 2 and 3, looking for horses that should be good racing prospects. The rules for me were the same as the Saratoga Select Sale--no unraced dams, must have winning siblings, no unproven stallions--and I went looking for ones that should make money. Some of them are placed in lower books, making me wonder if the physicals were bad, or if their pedigrees were so off the wall that they got stuffed in at the end.

1001 b f City Zip -- Maya, by Capote. Winning mare from a good family has a Gr-2 winner and 2 other winners out of 3 foals of racing age. City Zip is such a fine racehorse sire and the mare is shaping up to be a really useful broodmare. I'm thinking based on her family history and City Zip that she'll be 6f to a mile on grass.

1040 db/br f Macho Uno - Miss Pickups, by Afternoon Deelites. An odd mating, this...a Gr-2 winning mare from a fading sireline, out of a winning mare from the family of the dam of Gr-2 filly House of Fortune (also an odd mating). Thing is, the dam has 5 winners from 5 to race from 5 very different stallions, with only a 2yo of 2011 of her foals to not race. They seem to get better as they get older, and even with her 3yo of 2011 trailing her siblings earnings' by a long way, this mare's foals are averaging over $104,000 in winnings in their career. One of them has won $10,000 in the two months since the catalogue was put online. Buy this one, go racing, have fun.

1434 b c Candy Ride - India Halo (ARG), by Halo Sunshine. Gr-3 winning, Gr-1 placed mare, only two registered foals and one to race, but that one has 3 wins. DEEP Argentinian family of champion and super sire Interprete, who is a full brother to this colt's second dam. It's worth noting that out of the two times Candy Stripes saw an Interprete mare, one of them foaled a horse named Invasor; also worth noting is that Candy Girl's dam City Girl is a 3/4 genetic sibling to Interprete--by Farnesio out of a mare by a son of Pronto--and that Candy Girl produced a Gr-3 winning filly to the cover of Halo Sunshine. Clever mating, this. Could be anything--dirt, grass, synth, long, or short.

1662 Ch f Congaree - Two Punch Lil, by Two Punch. Stakes winning mare, the dam of Flashpoint, has another stakes winner, a listed placed, and 2 other winners out of 6 to race. Congaree has been a decent sire, and the listed place horse is by a Blushing Groom-line sire (Mt Livermore). Oklahoma-bred increases her earning potential by a LOT. She could run through all her conditions in statebred company in Oklahoma and then move to Louisiana or Arkansas for some money.

3199 db/br f Bold Executive - Mythical Status, by Mythical Ruler. This filly is a full sister to a Canadian champion and a half to a listed stakes winner. Her dam has 7 to win out of 8 to race. Registered Ontario-bred. Somebody will have a lot of fun with this filly up at Woodbine. Have to wonder about her physical, being full to a millionaire by the top stallion in Canada and in book 5, or if it's just that the folks at Keeneland think that the loonie is Funny Money that has no real value or what.
