Wow. That makes me happy that I'm not rich enough to buy a sale topper and lose 89% of my money...or make that 100+% because you have to count the expense of training. It would be fun to see where these horses are now, like...
Broodmare, producer of _____horses, ______to race,_______winners and earnings of $______.
Stallion, gelded and sold as a kids horse
Stallion, standing at __________, producer of __________earnings
etc.,etc.... _________________ "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it."

In my fantasy stable tracking spreadsheets, I've looked at what price range gives me the greatest ROI... it always seems to be around a $70-75K purchase.
Plus, definitely those who cost the most start later and far less often. _________________ All shouting does is make you lose your voice.

Genetics much less important than the individual.

Summer Front, undefeated in 3 starts, including 2 stakes races, working forwardly for comeback. Fair to say his value exceeds purchase price right now.
Stat, broke his maiden first time out, ran 2nd in the Three Chimneys Saratoga Special, ran in Arkansas Derby yesterday, off the board. Would think he isnt done with his racing career.
Ijigen has been exported to Japan.
The Bear Vow is still a maiden, tho he did run second in the Colin stakes. |

You conveniently left off the Keeneland sale topper in 2010, happened to be Wilburn who earned over $500,000 and is a very popular first year stallion. His purchase price, $625,000.
Malibu Star was exported to Japan, has earned $130,000 to date.
Green Diamond Lady, even tho a winner, has residual value being a filly by Johannesburg-Spain. |

Even among the top sires, 30% of the foals will never start, and 50% of the foals will never win a race at any level.
Many of the big trainers that these yearlings go to also have big junkyardsl |

You have got to love those 2 yo sales - they're great, just read the ads about them. Just don't look at the facts.
Breezing yearlings, then 2yos in 10 and change doesn't hurt a thing.
Talk about big junk yards, - explore carefully about any 2y0 consignor. One in ten, on a good year. |

I'll Have Another was bred in Kentucky by Harvey Clarke and purchased out of Eisaman Equine consignment by Doug O'Neill's brother, Dennis, at the 2011 Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's April Sale of 2-year-olds in training for $35,000.
And winner of the 2012 G1 Kentucky Derby. |

| Bodemeister worked 10.2 at the Fasig Tipton Palm Meadows sale last year, but was a scratch before going thru the ring. |

| I always get a kick reading posts from pinhookers and their cohorts about the occasional star sold by one of them. It's kind of like listening to a chronic gambler telling his wife that he hit the Daily Double but failing to disclose that he lost those winnings and more in the remaining races. |

| Looks like the top horses of this year were prepped for the 2YO sales. And if you think the stats for 2YO sales are bad, compare them with the yearling sales - if you really wanna fright. |

The simple facts you pinhookers always ignore are that these few stars were almost always purchased at a greatly reduced price as yearlings--and that their racetrack success is in spite of---not because of--their insane sales prep at two.
It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to figure out that there are so many miles in the tank and, if they are wasted on these warp-speed previews, they will have been spent before they are mature enough to fulfill their potential. |

| Not to mention the insane prep and pushing the babies get as yearlings to prep for those sales. It's just nasty all around. |
