they are like, literally 2 big blocks on the side of the horses head. i am going to have to get a picture of it tomorrow when i play aussie card and post it here. seems a lot of front runners wear it down there. it's something they put over the horses head that does not cover the eyes or ears for that matter, but one goes on the side of each side of the head and they are just.. blocks. |
Hi bdw,
Oh....you might be talking about an extra big set of "Winker's". See if this is what you mean...they are pretty much Aussie specific. TJ

Here in the USA they are occasionally used - we call them "Cant See Backs." They serve the same purpose as blinkers. I have seen them more often with jumpers and also on some lead ponies than with the flat runners. The horse wearing the fuzzies "Can't See Back" past the fuzzy pieces which attach to the bridle or noseband. _________________ Jessi P

i know becuase i did not know what it was a saw it a few times on horses i liked and it made me uneasy because i had no clue as to what it meant. i mean the ones they use down there are THICK. and it makes sense becuase they usually are on front runners. i know the famous apache cat the sprinter down there he has a younger sister, i want to say Tennessee charm, that was a sprinting front runner that wore them all the time when i saw her run. _________________ "When the solution is simple, God is answering.”

Hi bdw,
They do pretty much what Jessi said....but the standard size Winker's can afford a bit more view to the side than Blinker's allow without having to turn their head. I think I found the jumbo, customized...super duper Winker's you may have seen. I kinda feel sorry for the horse, looks embarrassed:>) Check out the link....TJ

Those actually look like they could slow a horse down! Like flaps on a plane - they would be aerodynamically inefficient. _________________ So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can..... |

Hi Madelyn,
I've got to agree with you...I'm sure they aren't all this overdone. In this case, it was done to match the horses silks.....you think they would have just dyed his tail blue and yellow and be done with it:>) TJ |

That's not allowed. The horse's description must match the description on the original Jockey Club papers. _________________ So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can..... |

I,ve used them overhere, with a filly that refused to race in the pack.
With them can,t see backs, she was rocketing from the start, instead of starting at the end of the field and loosing 10 or 12 lenghts right away.
With them 5 furlongs was more than enough. Without them she easily raced 8 furlongs. |
