Oh what the heck I entered Tevvy and Chief in two turf races at Woodbine for wednesday night as there's nothing doing here on the grass and Presque Ise's book is very odd right now. It's only 90 minutes along the QEW Hwy and you get expenses paid even if you trail the field. Chief can get some cover and speed to run at albeit faster than he can go and Tevvy finally has a chance to grass again after almost 2 years. At worst it will keep them fit and is a nice change from the boredom of training on dirt. So there you have it.

Well that was strange,he just did not move well at all over that turf even though I know how tough it looked on paper. On the other hand my long fused turf gelding who ran in the 3rd race on the card went very well and was not disgraced. It sure was a long day though!

Not a bad run for 4th money at Presque Isle, the track was rather spongy in the heat and humidity. My rider was frustrated by two slouches blocking us but then we got carted out wide and of course the rail opened up like the red sea soon after ,the winner coming up the rail. That's racing of course so I will regroup and let him recover from the hot journey in his own time. Now then some of the others will have to pay his bills for a change.

After plenty of time off to manage a small soft tissue injury I gave him a dirt race at Fort Erie to wind him up again and it served it's purpose but he will not run at all when dirt hits him in the face. Anyway I will be looking for a race at Presque Isle obviously now that the summer heat has abated . He may be in the running for a second career soon as the cost of owning/training cheaper horses has skyrocketed lately with the price of hay and feed going up every week recently. The omens are not good my friends.

I think the hay/feed prices are rising in anticipation of the results of this year's harsh weather and drought. There is no shortage yet but people are raising their prices now anyway. The increases have not hit me personally yet. I just got a load of (delivered) big square alfalfa (65lb +) bales at about $4.75 a bale.. _________________ So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can..... |

Well that was nice @$21, they put up an extra for open$7500 going 5 furls on the turf and he closed like a rocket up the rail for the win. Feels great I can tell you after waiting all summer and he enjoyed it immensely after eating dirt last time.

Boy Wilf you really are tuned into this horse, it's a pleasure to see how well he does for you. I'll bet the stands were alive with screams during that close. Pats to Tevvy and big grin for you!

Well actually no , Diane; even the racecaller never saw him until he was next to the leaders and then he drew away and galloped out happily.

As you may have read in a parallel thread Tevvy ran in a tough off-the-turf polytrack affair today at Woodbine @80/1 or so and even though the chart looks ordinary it was a very promising effort which leads me to think that he may do well much cheaper on the polytrack.

I would love to run at Turfway but not with Tevvy. The purses are poor now and there seems to be an awful lot of kickback which surprises me for a poly surface.
