once the big girl preps start coming out and eden's moon/ snowtop mountain / Summer Soiree enter the fray she will get clobbered. she's not that cut of turf mare. |
Hi bdw,
Guess we'll have to wait and see what the end of the year brings. This was her 2nd GR 1 win by the way. TJ | what was the other? _________________ "When the solution is simple, God is answering.”

Hi bdw,
Let's give you the whole rundown of this overrated horse....12 starts, 8 wins (2) seconds and (2) 4 place finishes. This is how it breaks down...(2) Grade 1 wins, (2) Grade 2 wins, (3) Grade 3 wins, (1) Grade 1 2nd (1) Grade 2 second and (2) Grade 1, 4 place finishes and her maiden win. The other grade 1 win you forgot about was the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes at Belmont Park. TJ |

| and...looking beyond the race record...look at the tail female...this is classic Darby Dan through and through. If they were ever to run this mare through a sale, I can't imagine what she would bring. |

Okay that's why i missed it that's my break time in the year.
I mean she's good but more than anything she's.. you know who she reminds me of a lot, Gio Ponti, though I think Gio was a betterh orse.
her real issue isn't so much talent is that the deivion that she would be best in is too deep (mile). but she really does want to run further than a mile of she can help it IMHO. i mean she's classy. so she will get hers but like if you had to put money on her in a BC race it would be the mile. but she can't run there beucase it's way too deep. _________________ "When the solution is simple, God is answering.”

Her acceleration was impressive but her erratic stretch run and tail swishing cause me to wonder if something is not quite 100% with her. When she accelerated she dropped to the rail then would not take her right lead. After swishing her tail she took the right lead and then bore out and swished her tail again.
It may be something as innocuous as being in season, but if they cannot get her running straight she is likely to cause some issues in the stretch sometime soon.
Having said that, she is without doubt an impressive mare. _________________ A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.

Hi Hoss,
According to Jimmy Toner her tail swishing and swapping leads we saw was her resentment to being hit by the stick. She did it at Belmont in her previous start which marked the first time she was ever struck with the whip. Toner reminded Castellano not to use the stick on her, but when she took the lead she started looking to the grandstand....so Castellano hit her to get her mind back in the business at hand...well she didn't like it, so Castellano went to hand riding her again and was OK once she realized she wasn't going to feel the stick again.
I remember another very good filly who did the same thing. She swished her tail though the lane every time they asked her to run....her name was Chris Evert. TJ |

thanks TJ, I had not heard Toner's explanation - if that is what it takes to be Cris Evert, then by all means swish away! _________________ A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.

In light of her retirement, perhaps the last erratic stretch run was at least partly caused by the bone bruising. _________________ A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.

Hi Hoss,
No doubt in retrospect it could be, but she did the same thing in her previous start. You would think they would have taken a closer look after the first adventure? Guess Toner was satisfied with what he assumed it was. Here's Toner's statement about her erratic run. TJ

You know TJ, we are all Allen Jerkens when we have the benefit of hindsight! Sorry I could not leave it alone...
Sean Clancy has been running a series of short stories from The Chief in the Saratoga Special, they have been great! I hope he gets enough from The Chief to write a book. _________________ A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.
