The following threads were posted by yours truly about a year ago.
Now they come handy with this actual thread. In synthesis, as far I know
these three strains (Amodeo, Demostenes and now Pop Goes The Tiger) descent from Master Robert, but not from the mega prolific strain of The Tetrarch/Roi Herode/Le Samaritain/Le Sancy.

Dear Collaborators,

Want to see a curiosity? Read this:

The following two gray Uruguayan sires owe their gray color, not to The Tetrarch, nor to his sire, nor to his grandsire (i.e. Le Samaritain), as everybody else, but from the very exiguous gray lineages of Master Robert. See for yourself:

THE FIRST CASE IS: AMODEO (URU) (gray H 1985):

01. by Snow Gabin (gr H 1977)
02. by Otoñal (gr H 1970)
03. by Gabin (gr H 1963)
04. from Ninon (gr M 1951)
05. by Tonto (gr H 1938)
06. from Pamplina (gr M 1927)
07. from Whirlanta (gr M 1918)
08. from Palanta (gr M 1912)
09. by Pippermint (gr H 1899)
10. from Mostaza (gr M 1895)
11. from Oxford Mixture (gr M 1870)
12. from Irish Belle (gr M 1859)
13. from Colleen Dhas (gr M 1842)
14. by Rust (gr H 1830)
15. by MASTER ROBERT (gr H 1811)
16. from Spinster (gr M 1805)
17. from Sir Peter Mare (gr M 1797)
18. from Bab (gr M 1787)
19. from Speranza (gr M 1778)
20. from Regulus Mare (gr M 1760)
21. from Carab Mare (gr M 1750)
22. by Crab (gr H 1722)
23. by Alcocks Arabian (gr H 1700)
-----------------------

THE SECOND CASE IS: DEMOSTENES (URU) (gray H 1981)

01. by Legendario (gr H 1972)
02. by Gabin (gr H 1963) (Ditto-->AMODEO's great-grand sire).
-----------------------
Enjoy.

Blessings,

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the super-overwhelming gray source from which 99.9999% percent of all grays owe their grayness. Out of this huge number, about 85% percent, or perhaps more, owe it solely to the great, The Tetrarch.

See for yourself:

00. Practically every gray sire or mare
01. by The Tetrarch (gray H 1911) (***)
02. by Roi Herode (gray H 1904) (***)
03. by Le Samaritain (gray H 1895) (***)
04. by Le Sancy (gray H 1884) (***)
05. from Gem of Gems (gray M 1873)
06. by Stathconan (gray H 1863)
07. from Souvenir (gray M 1856)
08. by Chanticleer (gray H 1843)
09. from Whim (gray M 1832)
10. by Drone (gray H 1823).
11. by MASTER ROBERT (gray H 1811)

Best Wishes,

Stefan The Great's direct gray lineage may not sound that ultra rare when compared with the remote strain from Master Robert himself, but certainly the following gray strain deserves a good browsing.

Please check the removed gray strain of FINANCINGAVAILABLE (gray F. 2001), who goes back to the gray champion mare VALENCIENNES (gray M. 1927) and Stefan The Great.

Enjoy!

Hey Jorge, Con Juan has been working at Hollywood Park, and he's still listed as a colt.

Dear Nessa,

Thank you so much for the update on Con Juan. I may be wrong but I thought that only Echo Freddie was entire with some hope. I read somewhere they gelded Wuddenme too. Unfortunately, the gray-tail-male lineage from Native Dancer seems to be disappearing. Haven't read anything new about this angle save for your note. Thanks again!

Dear Nerd,

I haven't read or acknowledged of any other gray lineage not coming from Master Robert. As far as I have browsed there is no other option available. Hope to be wrong but every common or "rare" gray always unfolds the presence of Master Robert.

Hmmm, when was the last time you saw a gray Thoroughbred owing his or her coat color to 1946 Epsom Derby winner Airborne? Take a look:

The gray color of Dona Amelia comes from Master Robert, also.

Dear Georgerz,

Correct indeed!

Hmmm, identifying gray Thoroughbreds owing their coat color directly from Master Robert (instead of from the world famous strain of The Tetrarch/Roi Herode/Le Samaritain/Le Sancy seems like a good trivia-like exercise. Interesting!

Thank you very much!

Jorge - Just happened to catch The Spectacular Bid Stakes run at Calder today and the name Pop Goes The Tiger caught my attention b/c of this prior discussion - unfortunately he ran last in today's race. He went off at second longest odds but came out of the start just behind leaders and early on appeared eager to move up and challenge, but then he backed out of it pretty fast. It never looked to me like he really got a hold on the somewhat muddy track. But it reminded me to tell you I have seen another member of this S. American gray female family in person: Liga Love an older allowance winner here at Sam Houston Race Park, several years ago, only lightly raced and later becoming a fairly accomplished jumper. I looked at her when she was offered for sale as a possible brood mare a couple of years ago as she was by Noon Time Spender like my own mare. She was the spitting image of my mare - who is black - in the head. If they'd ended up in the same barn it would have been natural to call them 'Salt' and "Pepper". It was interesting for me to see her "cousin" on HRTV today - they were very similar in body type and movement (based on his trot up to the start of the race and the gate today).

Dear Jellac,

Thank you so much for the report on Pop Goes The Tiger and for this unknown angle (Liga Love). Will browse this name.
