|
|
I have recently run a linebreeding query on a mare and would like to have an explanation on the following info:
"Lines", "Influence", "AGR"; " Coefficient of breeding"; " Unique ancestors %".
I would guess that there probably is somewhere on the site that explains this, I hope, as there are bound to be more terminology questions when I run other queries.
Please help an old hard boot farm manager trying to leap gracefully into the 21st Century.
Thanks in advance. |

Hi Lord Paul,
Just saw your post - sorry no one has answered till now. Probably because few do know the actual calculations behind some of these figures, including me.
Unique ancestors is the percentage of horses that are unique through the number of generations listed. For example, 48% through 8 generations means that about half of the ancestors in an 8 gen pedigree appear only once in that pedigree.
I've forgotten the meaning of AGR but it's a calculation that modifies the Blood% figure where more distant ancestors (8th and 9th gen) have less impact than those in the more recent generations. I'm looking at Singspiel so using him as an example, Herbager has a slightly higher AGR than Blood% (he's in the 5th and 3rd generations of the pedigree) and Teddy is listed at 0%AGR despite the fact that there are 10 occurrances, 7 in the 9th and 3 in the 7th.
Lines is a bit esoteric. Take the Mahmoud blood in Singspiel. It appears 4 times in his pedigree. There are 3 distinct horses who have Mahmoud blood. If you move your mouse over the numbers in parentheses under the lines column it tells you who those more recent individuals are that carry Mahmoud's blood in Singspiel (broken down by sire and dam side - thus the 2 parenthetical numbers).
I believe you mean coefficient of INBREEDING. I haven't a clue?
Influence is supposed to make the combined inbreeding more tangible. For example, using Mahmoud, Singspiel is 6s x 8s x 5d x 5d. This means that Mahmoud appears in the 6th and 8th generations on the sire side and twice in the 5th generation of the dam's side. Influence uses these appearances of the ancestor and gives a simpler number that approximates the influence in the pedigree that the ancestor has. In this case the influence number is saying that Mahmoud has the same effect as if he appeared in this pedigree 5x5. Obviously a bit off in this case because Mahmoud's that and more.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Pete |
