IN particular trainers with young promising 3YO's.
The horse in reference here is Soldat

“We decided some time ago that, despite how well he did on turf last year, we didn’t want to wait until October (this year) to find out if he was as good on dirt. They are only 3-year-olds once,” said McLaughlin with an obvious eye toward the Triple Crown. “Also, he’s by War Front, by Danzig, who never turfed and was a good horse on dirt.”
McLaughlin said Soldat would likely run next on Feb. 26 in the Fountain of Youth (gr. II).
“There still may be some question of how he handles a fast track, although I’m not really that concerned the way he has trained,” McLaughlin said. “And now we know the distance isn’t a problem.”

| Sounds more like a horse that's very picky about surfaces and the trainer is looking for the one he likes. |

Soldat caught my eye early, and yes, was probably a victim of Derby fever in terms of career management and maybe injury...I look forward to him possibly being an older horse stand out. _________________ All shouting does is make you lose your voice.

BDW, if Michael Matz had thought your way Barbaro would never have run in the Derby much less win it. I think Kiaran's comment "they are only a 3 year old once" says it all. _________________ A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.
