Montford Park was 6th of 12 in his debut, beaten by 8.5 lengths. If this were a maiden 5.5f race it wouldn't be worth a comment. But it was a 1 1/16 turf MSW for non-winners 3 and older. 1st, 2nd and 5th were 4, 3d & 4th were 3 with 7 starts each. Montford Park was next, one of 2 making their debut, the other was up the track. He was involved in the race, bidding 4 wide, getting to 3d in the stretch then fading. Something to build on - it would be great to have an Invasor turf runner.

Jackpot Josie did it again - she wore down the front running 0.30 favorite to win by a neck and it was 9 1/2 lengths to the show horse. Oh and there were three 5 yos behind her, including the favorite. Been there, done that!

Invasive Cocktail was 5th as the favorite, beaten by 8 lengths. The comment was "trekked wide through the turn". (He looked like a deserving favorite but in a big field, many running for the first time, you have to hope nobody plays bumper cars. That would have been worse.)

Bodembender runs tomorrow in a 2000m (10f) conditions race (Allowance) at Deauville. He finished 10th in his first start of 2012 after racing in 2nd until the end. His connections are doubling down by putting him in at the same 10f distance. They clearly think he just needed the race and will improve.

Golf Juan comments are up: He was 4th early and had to be satisfied with that at the finish (2 horses fell back but were replaced by closers). |

Have to share this list of nominees for a mixed sex maiden stakes in the UK - Invasor vs Invasor at 1 1/4 miles! There are 27 nominees so it will look very different when it runs Aug 17:
http://www.timeform.com/godolphin/gd_entries.asp?coursecode=27&selectdate=1120817&racenumber=2
The Godolphin Invasor, Inqadh, ran very green in his debut last year, then threw a clunker on soft turf and they gelded him. Then nothing. Hope he runs and runs well. Light Zabeel was 3d last out against colts and has the best record to date. No turf Invasor winners in Europe yet (Golf Juan won on synthetic).
BTW Five Sixteen is probable for the Travers. |

Vader came in 3rd on the 9th at River Downs in the pouring rain, thunder and lightening. I can't believe they even rain in the lightening but they did. Actually Vader won the race himself as the jockey didn't do anything to encourage him or urge him on. Vader ran against the rail so he was running in about a foot of water that had settled there. Had he been urged on by the jock he might have taken second. Third is better than last. Ivan is thinking Moutaineer maybe next time out.
There is no doubt however that Vader really is a mudder . _________________ "We are the people our parents warned us about" - Jimmy Buffett

Congrats to Vader! Maybe the jockey had visions of going down and drowning in the mud? Third is way better than last but Vader is due for some luck.
Cheechako is making her 1012 debut in a 6f MSW for 3 & older at Ellis Park on Aug 17 for a purse of $31000. She ran twice at Churchill in 2011 and in her last race at 7f she made a sweeping move, just missed. This race has a field of 12 so lots can happen. Cheechako is the ML favorite by a very narrow margin.
