This is over at the TVG site. Part of a longer post about horses from the 1930 Bloodhorse.
Calico Dick is the horse in question. by Pennant out of Nemesis, registered name Rhadamanthus.
Bred by C V Whitney. Raced as a steeplechaser.
Any guesses on the pattern? Or where it came from? |

Pennant is very protagonical here.
If you examine the more radical phenotype of the white mare,
White Beauty (1963), http://www.pedigreequery.com/white+beauty
you will note that she was by the flamboyant Ky Colonel, who was a son of
Balladier, son of Black Toney, son of Peter Pan.
Note that Peter Pan is also the second broodmare sire
Of Ky Colonel. Why the reference you may ask?
Because Pennant, sire of Rhadamanthus is a very protagonical
presence, wherever you come across him, because Peter Pan is the source.

Jorge,
I'm pretty sure that the colt in the photo is not a Dominant White.
(If anyone else wants to guess what the markings are, feel free to weigh in)
I'm also pretty sure that the mutation that started that version of DW started with Ky Colonel. White Beauty was of course a DW mutation. |

I'm also fairly certain he is DW. _________________ Check out my Equine Genetics blog! Updated April 25th with Splashed White!!!

At the present I consider more appropriately wiser for me to limit
my opinions to phenoptype descriptions and to merely pinpoint
common ancestors, thus avoiding entering into genotypes. But yes, I have great respect for the opinions of all of our participants. |

Not a doubt in my mind that's dominant white. _________________

Looks like one to me too. Whatever, he's cute. I wonder if any of his siblings were flashy? _________________ Every mighty oak was once an acorn that stood its ground. |
