Bloomsbury was a bay horse foaled in 1836, by Mulatto out of Arcot Lass, by Ardrossan. He was one of several winners of The Derby during this period in racing history that was rumoured to be a four-year-old, however it was never proven. He also won the Ascot Derby. He raced for two more seasons before going to Germany. He was a half brother to St Giles, also a winner of The Derby. Carol Clegg
