Also called Mezereon, he was bred by Mr. Painter and imported to Alabama by James Jackson in 1830. Jackson sent the horse to Nashville, Tennessee to stand under the management of Colonel George Elliott; according to turf historian William Robertson, Leviathan was the leading sire in the USA five times and became the first stallion to sire the winners of over $100,000 in a single season in 1838. Stood 16.0 hands and said to be very heavily built.
