According to Joe Palmer's "This Was Racing", Polynesian developed a dislike for race tracks, refusing to train, and in his later campaigns he would trailer in for a race and stay only a few days. At the farm, he was turned out, not trained, which is why he ran mostly in sprints, which he could win with his talent and class.
