He ran only three times in his life; unbeaten, at age three. His fall season was interrupted by WW II: the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe was cancelled, and the Doncaster St. Leger in England, also cancelled. Won: Prix Noailles at Longchamp (1-1/2 miles), Prix du Jockey Club, Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp (15 furlongs).
Pharis was a superb racehorse and champion sire in France. His career on the turf and in the breeding shed was seriously affected by World War II which put an end to his fall season on the racecourse in France and England. He lost five seasons as a stallion in France when he was confiscated by the Nazis and taken to Germany. Pharis was acclaimed the champion of his year. Many compared him to the great French hero, Gladiateur. See also: http://www.tbheritage.com/Portraits/Pharis.html
