Purchased by Daniel Swigert for $1k at 1877 Woodburn yearling sale; sold to James R. Keene for $15k after unbeaten as juv. Proved US champion 3yo male of 1879. Lost to Falsetto 2x they met but may well have been adversely affected by sore feet. In Withers loss, was "pulled" at order of his owner so that stablemate could win. Good mudder (a trait still seen today in members of the Man o' War line) but did not handle extremely fast tracks well, presumably because they stung his feet. Died in 1900.
