One of the best race mares of her day, Trifle was also one of the smallest. Her only unplaced effort was in the famous Jockey Club Purse of October 13, 1832 at the Union Course on Long Island, in which she was distanced by winner Black Maria in the fifth and final heat. Although Trifle finished the twenty-mile marathon (the race had been at four-mile heats) in obvious distress, she recovered so well that she never lost another race, finishing her career with twelve straight victories.
