American record, 10 f., 2:03 1/5.
Offered for sale as a yearling by breeder, but had no takers. Notably ugly and measuring 17 hands as a juvenile, Waterboy fractured his pelvis (some reports describe the injury as a dislocated hip) as a three-year-old after colliding with a loose horse at Morris Park. Amazingly, he recovered enough after several months in a sling to not only return to racing, but to be acclaimed champion handicap horse in the U.S. in 1903. He died of heatstroke in 1914 after a moderately successful stud career.
