Merely called Spanker Mare in the GSB, both Pick and Cheny confirm her name as Charming Jenny
Dam of Betty Percival, through which family branches 6-b to 6-f descend, and successful stallions Leedes and Jigg
The GSB also says she is dam of Cream Cheeks, but mtDNA evidence shows she is not related to her supposed sister Betty Percival, so Cream Cheeks cannot be a daughter of Charming Jenny. Her descendants have a different haplotype from any horse so far DNA tested.
The DNA evidence is supported by the stud book of Cuthbert Routh which says Cream Cheeks is out of "a famous roan mare of Sr. [Sir] Mar. [Marmaduke] Wyvill's".
Routh and Wyvill's studs were less than 10 miles apart so Routh's pedigree is likely to be correct.
The DNA result means that, unless Charming Jenny was the same horse as Wyvill's Roan Mare and also Betty Percival was not out of Charming Jenny, which is possible but unlikely, all of Cream Cheeks' descendants should be removed from Family 6, including Flying Childers and Bartlet's Childers.
