Fantine supposedly won the 1st race at Ideal Park on October 12, 1896, but it was alleged that the horse was actually a ringer named Tarentum, a Pontiac-Tarentella filly who had been ruled off with Dr. Street at Washington a year before. "Fantine" was heavily backed to 7-5 from a her opening odds of 15-1, and large sums of money were won on her. -- DRF October 14, 1896
Imported in utero.
