Re: Size Matters

I am guessing some of these heights may be "approximate." I saw the three horses listed below up close on the same day a couple of years ago. I would have said American Pharoah was clearly the shortest of the three. American Pharoah 2012 (Ashford, 2016) 16.2 1/2h Tapiture 2011 (Darby Dan, ...

Size Matters

Anne Peters website has a list of 2018 Kentucky stallions that includes almost every stallion's height. I was surprised by how few stallions are listed at less than 16 hands. The only stallions below 16 hands that have active runners are Speightstown, Distorted Humor, English Channel, Tale of the Ca...

Unsolicited Mating Advice for Lady Aurelia

Ghostzapper would flip Justify's pedigree.

Tapit would give full sisters Yarn and Preach as in Justify's pedigree.

Re: Best Triple Crown Sires 2008-2018

AP Indy and Unbridled appear most often in the pedigrees of successful TC runners. Storm Cat is all over the dam sides of successful TC runners, but is pretty much a no show on the sire lines. One stallion that I do not think gets enough credit as an important stallion is Smart Strike. He is a TC si...

Best Triple Crown Sires 2008-2018

Since most every owner and trainer wants to win Triple Crown Races, I looked to see which recent sires had multiple horses that finished first, second or third in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness or Belmont from 2008 through 2018. I was surprised at how few sires had multiple placings (13) and how few ...

Re: Birdstone

Osmoz did not do much in this race but the purses for his last two hurdle races were $100,000 and $125,000. Not too shabby for an alternative career.

Re: New Equibase Format

Madelyn:

It does give the highest speed rating for each year below the big chart in the Stats folder. I like the earnings per start figure, which I don't think was available in the old format.

I agree the bar charts are a pretty useless waste of a lot of space.

HOFBURG

I don't feel so bad about picking Hofburg in the Derby after reading this from the revised chart: "HOFBURG bumped at the break, settled toward the inside, moved up into the far turn, steadied off heels soon after, steadied again leaving the five-sixteenths, altered out to advance between rivals...

Re: The 144th Running of The Kentucky Derby

I am betting Hofburg across the board and hoping that a contested pace takes something out of the obvious favorites. In only his third race, Hofburg was within a couple of lengths of Audible. Hofburg should improve in his third race off a layoff. His late running style and pedigree should allow Hofb...
