; perhaps a result of our popular culture so obsessed with sex and scandal. The Duke of Westminster, owner and breeder of Bend Or, would be unlikely to choose a disreputable name for a prized colt. Maybe if you do some research yourself you will find out the people who often get caught up in sex sc...

There are quiet a few horses registered like this another one springs to mine is Ma Biche, to an English speaker would be said Ma Bitch. And why would a French-speaking person name his horse to make 'joke' in English? Although bred in the US, Ma Biche was named and raced in France. In French, 'ma b...

It seems whenever someone comes across a name whose derivation they aren't familiar with, they want to find a 'shady' meaning or double entendre from it; perhaps a result of our popular culture so obsessed with sex and scandal. Like the person who was unfamiliar with Irish geography and so found Din...

Error adding the horse to the database! Please contact site

Tried to add MSW winner from Aqueduct, Devilishameye. Had the right parents in the choices, but got this message. From the chart:

Winner: Devilishameye, dark bay or brown filly by Devil His Due out of Shambidextress, by Sham. Foaled March 19,2006, in New York.

Most stakes list problems

In finding out when the Molson Million was demoted to the Ontario Derby (actually it died, and was later revived with the new name), I found that a fictional horse has been entered as the 2000 winner, 5 years after the race was discontinued. Meafara never had a foal by Forty Niner, and her 1997 foal...

Comet4 has the wrong sire

This time my authority is none-other than Bobinsky-Zamoysky tables. His sire was Charlegmage, the French one foaled in 1926, by Niceas or Sardanapale-Reine Marguerite III, family 4-i. Not the one from 1927, by Gay Crusader. But, of course, Comet4 is locked. General rant - why don't people check out ...

Lucy, if you need to check something Italian, I bought a book called Italian Produce Records 1958-1992 at THE second-hand book store in a village near Newmarket. It has produce records like those in Meres de Gagnants in one volume, and results of all black-type races along with stallion lists in the...

Re: Adding a Stakes Race

The whole stakes-race DB is a bit odd. E.g., look up "brighton" for tracks. 2 stakes come which say they are in Great Britain. However, 1 of those shows the track as "Brighton Beach, NY" which is a contradiction (and wrong). Do you mean the stakes race was not at Brighton Beach or that the track di...

Fixing stakes list

Whoever entered the winners of the Premio Ribot (G2-It) somehow mixed his lists in the 1980s. I have tried to use the 'Edit this year/delete this year' box by right-clicking on the year number, but as soon as I move the cursor to select the action, the box disappears.

Can't add a new Snow Fairy

New Irish 2yo Snow Fairy, bay of 2007, was 3rd in the Prestige S (G3) today at Goodwood. I get to confirming the parents Intikhab and Woodland Dream but when I try to look at the completed pedigree, it claims the horse isn't in the database.

Someone chose the wrong third dam

Of Monsieur Chevalier, the recent English G3 winner at Goodwood. For whatever reason (it was first on the list?), they chose the 1967 USA Holywell, by Mr. Mustard, instead of the more logical and correct 1977 GB Holywell, by Wolver Hollow. I have verified that Holly Bird, the second dam, was produce...

Can't add a horse

His name is Parabola, he is a chestnut gelding of 2006 by Trajectory out of Flying Tabriz. His full sister is in, as are a couple of half-siblings, but the system will not allow me to add him. He was bred in Ontario, Canada, by Janet Jeanpierre; he won a stakes race last fall last fall and just won ...

Part of the 'male line' worship in many cultures is, I think, based on a false analogy with agriculture. You plant a seed in the ground and what comes up depends on what kind of seed you planted; the soil can modify its health, but not its species traits - you plant wheat, what grows is wheat. The s...

Pulpit was as good a horse as one could expect from the female family of Monarchy, Round Table's sister. People forget that Round Table was from a 'fish and fowl' mating - staying sire with mare from sprinting background. Round Table got the both the speed and stamina, but Monarchy only got the spee...
