I hate to say this, but sometimes you get a reputation for being a person whose horses are sitting on a win, and then they pick you like a chicken. My latest trainer usually has about 20 horses in his barn, and they've claimed him down to 8 lately. Fewer people are bringing in freshly developed hors...

It's really hard for a trainer to make an equipment change when a horse is winning, even if it looks like it is needed. I remember Alex Solis telling Mel Stute that Snow Chief needed blinkers at least one race before the Derby, and Mel said he couldn't put them on as long as he was winning. Snow Chi...

Oh, come on, just let him ride again one more time...this time he really means it. What makes me so darn mad is that I can name a whole bunch of jockeys in CA that have simply disappeared in years gone by when they were suspected of something, whether it be dope or race-fixing. They come back...

I had a mare and foal at a farm that required TWO plasma infusions as a policy. That foal was the only foal that I ever had that got the crud, and it hung with her for months and months. I presume that they demanded it as a policy because they had germs in the soil there and every foal was getting s...

When Michael Matz was a show jumping rider, he went to the Olympics for the first time with a horse that he had trained aggressively, wanting to make sure that he was fit. What he realized after he got there was that the horse was tired and worn out. So when he had a chance to go back four years lat...

Which genius decided that it would be a good idea to run the cancelled race AGAIN in the same card even after there was a fatality. So many red flags about doing that just to please the visitors I guess. Anyway all it did was kill 2 more horses. Are vet-checks not as thorough or non-existent? I am ...

Here's an interesting forum from 2008 discussing it: http://www.racecafe.co.nz/forum/printthread.php?t=29269&pp=40 Scroll down and look for the post by Peter Jenkins. He says: "All TBs today trace to just 3 unique sirelines - Godolphin Arabian, Byerley Turk & Darley Arabian. Other sires at t...

Could you have been thinking of The Brownlow Turk? I believe that ALL of the initial mares in the General Sire Book (UK) were all from Herod, Matchem, and Eclipse, but this Brownlow Turk was a grey horse. There was a woman who was a pedigree scholar named Lady Wentworth, and she determined that this...

equineline.com is offering free lifetime trainer stat reports in February. That is report #202. They do ask for your credit card number to establish an account but they shouldn't charge you if you only ask for the #202.

You might start with The Second Race, located in southern California. Sharla Sanders might have some contacts for you in Ohio: 626-733-3815 You might also try Old Friends, since they specialize in stallions. They seem to want to take the big-name stallions, but they might be able to find a local pla...

The Breeders Cup rules were very clear in the beginning: breeders had better pay the $500 fee, or it was going to cost the future owner a lot of money later. That's what made a Breeders Cup nominated foal more valuable at auction, and made consignors who sold BC-nominated horses a better bet. So now...

All of the CA tracks write 4yo & up maiden races. We actually saw quite a few older maidens on the fair circuit that is just ending. You can still make Fresno.

I have always thought that you could make a horse go faster with your voice and by pumping your arms and legs than with a whip. The whip makes them take their mind off of their effort ("Ow! What the hell! I'm trying, can't you see that?") rather than urging them on as a partnership. However, I don't...

I don't know if you are just curious or if you are worried, but you can potentially provide a safety net for them by registering yourself with the JC as a person who needs to be contacted in case of retirement: http://registry.jockeyclub.com/registry.cfm?page=tbConnectLanding But I wouldn't wait for...
