I would NEVER agree with PETA. Horse racing could use a number of changes and 2 yo sales are definitely one of them. These sales are a real meat grinder and I won't purchase a horse from one because I think the overworked stock is a poor value. PETA on the otherhand, wants to abolish horseracing, al...

American horse racing is in big trouble and on the way out, it appears. I give big credit for much of this decline to the surly, condescending, rude parimutual clerks whose strong unions prevented the bad apples from being fired. The clerks were often the customer's only contact with the industry an...

The notion that cruel connections continue to run a bleeding horse is a bit of an emotional reaction to the situation and not grounded in reality. Horses that bleed usually don't perform well. Lasix, Premarin, Kentucky Reds, and a host of other remedies are used in an effort to prevent bleeding. If ...

I've actually flown into this airport many times. The Harris Ranch airport is not part of the Harris Ranch TB breeding operation. The airport is next to the Harris Ranch Hotel and Restaurant (which are owned by the same company). Those folks were probably flying in for a meal as this is a favorite d...

Our horses here at the ranch on rare occasion will bleed simply romping in the pasture vigorously. These ponies graze on grass throughout the day in irrigated large pastures, get a flake alfalfa in the morning, and a little grain, too. Complete nutrition and they look great. Yet for horses with cert...

A trainer has a tough job because he/she has to wear so many hats and be everything to so many different people. The owner does play a huge role on the team and this varies based on the owner's knowledge, experience and personality. Like everything else in life, "He who writes the check, calls the s...

So, we a can sum up the Halo line as being: 1. Tempermental 2. Competitive 3. Durable 4. Not Precocious And, as always, there will be exceptions . . . . . . and Karen will be offended, bitter, condescending, and insulted by anything with which she disagrees. But hey, its the Internet, and nobody car...

I never met Halo but I spent some time with his son, Lil Tyler. Tyler would run across his paddock to "greet" any visitor with a vicous bite, any season, any time of year, and under any circumstances. He was a nasty little bastard. Our big horse, Real Temptation, was the son of Lil Tyler. He wasn't ...

Agreed. I love Halo and what his genes bring to the breeding table. Here in California, Little Tyler was a great source for Halo but the current Halo stallions are having a tough go of it. Halo blood tends to yield a horse that will run on virtually any surface, being especially good in the mud. Hal...

Santa Rosa is the logical contender as they have one of the best turf courses. From a horsemen's standpoint, Santa Rosa is outstanding. The dirt and the turf offer safe surfaces on which to race, perhaps the best in the state. There are two big problems with Santa Rosa from the bettors' standpoint....

Owner/Trainer Statistics Needed
For various reasons which are too tedious to explain, certain owner/trainer combos consistently turn in huge numbers when it comes to racing win, place and show percentages. I've seen 2% win trainers actually hit at a 20% clip when paired with the right owner. I've also witnessed a big-time 20% trai...
