Re: Best Horses To Never Win A Stakes Race

Interesting topic!

Mylute was a pretty good one that never won a Stakes.
Several top 4 finishes in big races (Preakness, Louisiana Derby, Alysheba, Stephen Foster, Bold Ruler), but never quite able to get home the top prize.

Re: Derby

The run might have cost War of Will a minor placing, so I guess technically he had to come down. I had a 7 / 20 Exacta, but no straight money on Country House. (I played him underneath 5+7+8 in both triples and exactas.) I watched the race and then left immediately to run an errand, thinking I'd hit...

Re: Winwinwin

I like him, too. Excellent breeding, IMO.
I think either Win Win Win or Code of Honor will run in the money at double digit odds. Maybe even both!

Horse of the Year discussion

Comparing Justify to Accelerate … Looking back over the past 15 years or so, there have been 25 cases when a horse won 4 or more Grade 1s in a single year: Year Horse G1 wins 2003 MINESHAFT 4 2003 SIGHTSEEK 4 2005 SAINT LIAM 4 2006 INVASOR (ARG)  4 2006 LAVA MAN  4 2007 RAGS TO RICHES  4 2008 BIG BR...

Queen Maxine

Entered in CD race 10 today. Maybe the move to the main (Dirt) track coupled with the slight Class drop will make the difference. Perry Ouzts listed, for whom she has run her best to-date.

Re: Breeders Cup

I had horrible results. A few "1st and 3rd" near-misses, including Stellar Agent, but no luck. With their wins, both Accelerate and Monomy Girl entered rarified territory of runners with 5 or more Grade 1 wins. It's a relatively short list, in recent times (since 2006): ABEL TASMAN 6 ACCEL...

“Optimism trumps realism”

Good one, Joltman!
Without hope, what kind of life would we be living?

Amongst Friday’s card, I think #12 in the 5th race, Pocket Dynamo, might outrun her odds (20-1 morning line). Several others (1, 2, 6, 7) appear much more likely, but the odds ought to be great!

Re: Aldous Snow

Well, he ran third … good try. 18 furlongs isn't quite the same as 9 furlongs, particularly when you have to jump over things!

Aldous Snow

Multiple graded stakes winner Aldous Snow is going to try his hand at steeplechasing this weekend, at Aiken!
First race, October 27th …

I wish him (and his connections) well in this new endeavor.

Returns to racing in the Bing Crosby tomorrow … without Flavien Prat, however.
