Hi jellac Meelup was beaten a head on Monday, basically because the jockey waited to press the button too late. One of the problems with running in apprentice races. The ground at Bath which is usually no worse than good was extremely heavy which meant that Easter Ogil had no real chance. He ran wel...

I would be unable to put an average age on racegoers but families are encouraged in the UK, and plenty of the evening racing attracts the 25-35 age range.

Meelup & Easter Ogil

These two inmates at the Southcombe yard run next week. Meelup In fine form at present with 3 wins from his last 4 runs. He is entered for races at Warwick on the 2nd May and Chepstow on the 4th. Subject to a decent draw he is expected to put up bold performances under a 6lb penalty. Easter Ogil re-...

Pete In general owners in the UK know nothing about pedigrees, they are not interested. Owning a horse is a social thing and they don't expect to make money...that's a bonus. Out of all the owners I know personally in the three yards where I have had horses or placed horses for people none have had ...

Ruffian - the industry is for the forseable future ruined, because the only horses worth keeping in training are those rated 80+. It is already nearly impossible to break even with a low grade horse but owners accept that they can't, and as long as the horses can race that is fine. Most of them use ...

Pete Have you been at the UK Tattersalls sale over the last few days? - because that is where I have been. Most lots are either purchased by bloodstock agents on behalf of their clients or by trainers who sell them on to their owners. It is probably different in the USA because I suspect that more o...

The reason for this is simple: The BHB have changed the handicap perameters and now the races fall into rigid bands: 46-55 56-70 71-85 Horses rated 46- 50 get balloted out So do those rated 56-62 and 71-75. There have been 120 entries for a single race more than once recently. These horses have NO c...

Perhaps I could be somewhat cynical and say that 90% of the time the answer is:

"whatever their bloodstock agent tells them" :(
