A right-handed oval track of a mile and five furlongs in circumference, with an uphill run from the home turn of three and a half furlongs, and chutes for mile and a quarter and mile and three-quarters contests. There is a separate straight course of five furlongs running diagonally across the cent...

Re: California Chrome Headed to Royal Ascot

For a UK track the straight o...

Re: The Phoenix (1940)

He was a cracking sire, though never particularly fashionable, and did even better as a broodmare sire.

He got a fair number of fast horses like Victorina, but his last top flight performer was the top class stayer, Prince Hansel (owned by the Magniers).

Champion Stakes and Irish 2000 Guineas winner, Hugh Lupus (1952), and successful sire (UK classic winners Hethersett and Pourparler) has a pretty tasty pedigree for inbreeding buffs to get ther teeth into.

To me, Phalaris was fast, sound, tough and with a good temperament. However, for those who feel otherwise, take heart from this year's Grand National winner, Neptune Collonges http://www.pedigreequery.com/neptune+collonges. Is there a top class racehorse anywhere today with less Phalaris blood than ...

Must put in a word for The Tatling, former Group 2 and Group 3 winning sprinter, who at the age of 14 ran in his 178th, and final, race at Wolverhampton today on the polytrack. Miraculously, he managed to get up in the last stride to win the 5f handicap under top weight. He retires with earnings of ...

I've always thought Ellen Parker's articles had the feel of a sly gossip column. Rather than dealing with fact. She also claims Graustark was sired by Swaps. Quite. Parker's argument regarding Graustark goes as follows: Apart from Graustark, all of Ribot's top class offspring were bay/brown....

Phalaris as well as being an absolutely top class sprinter, had all the attributes you'd want to see in a racehorse, toughness, soundness, determination, an excellent temperament, an ability to shoulder spine-bending weights, and he kept on improving throughout his four year career. He didn't have a...
