Re: Kentucky Derby Point Standings
Really enjoy the analysis and comments that are in the handicapping session. You guys provide great insight. What a talented group for the Derby this year...I will be watching this one with more excitement than usual. I breed one or two mares a year, always aiming for classic distance types...so the...
Re: Curlin
Speaking of Curlin, Smart Strike as a sire of sires has had a good run here lately. Square Eddie, English Channel, and Curlin all getting gr. 1 winners recently. So four in total for English Channel counting Parranda winning the gr. 1 Singapore Cup and the one he got today at Woodbine, Interpol, and...

Re: Promising two year old
If you are expressing dry humor, I get it. An English channel out of a turf leaning Lyphard mare would come out of a coma if shown a turf course. So happy for you !!!!! Congratulations on a msw win, it's a cause for celebration anywhere. English channels are not normally precocious and it seems they...

Re: American Pharoah Tops My Logic
And while I am on the subject, the time of 2:03 is not very fast, and how would you interpret this anyone in light of a colt like Pharoah with his speed influences? This stuff is interesting to me because I only have a couple of mares but we are breeding stamina to stamina, because as a yearling buy...

Re: American Pharoah Tops My Logic
So help me understand something. Was part of American P's success the somewhat moderate fractions compared to other Derbys, meaning could he have won against stamina breds if the early pace had been faster? And/or is this potentially a component of the point system eliminating some sprinters who use...

Re: Derby picks
I will be listening for you Jellac :) I am not confident in my picks. I'm not that knowledgeable a handicapper anyway, do okay but still a lot to learn there. I pick Derby horses more on pedigree and that has worked out on occassion. This one however has me a little stumped. I initially picked Mubta...

Re: RIP Sky Classic
Really liked and respected him, and he was one of the last sons of Nijinsky any of us could breed to. Seems to me that Nijinsky crops up over and over in some serious pedigrees all over the world.

Re: Regal Bloodlines 20115 Kentucky Derby Top 10 List
Hi DDT, Patuxet and Bobster. Pretty intriguing, the contrast of this horse's performance (and how easy he's doing it) at 1 1/8 miles versus his female family's seeming lack of contribution to his route credentials. I can look at his races and how easy he is winning them and pick him to win the Derby...
Re: Mubtaahij
So glad you posted that. It looked like such an easy gallop, if you didn't know it was a work. How easy he did it. He's my derby pick, and I'm going Materiality second. How horses like American P and Dortmund could not be my favorites with what they have shown and done may come back to bite, but I l...

Re: Promising two year old
Hi Sherger, I'm way over-invested in English Channels, so really hope our mares will click with him. The first home-bred is 2, her name is Atlantic Blue (see first link), then a yearling which died, and the next two are foals just born (see second link on one of them). We've gotten the stud fee for ...

Re: Promising two year old
Sherger I so hope he has a good trip and learns the right things his first out. Not too many E Ch's win their debuts, but there was one at Gulfstream this past weekend who did it. Not an easy thing to do even for more precocious pedigrees. I hope your colt finishes in one piece and if he closes stro...

Re: 10 seconds flat for 1/8 of a mile
I've not bought but one horse out of a 2 year old in training sale, but have had a few that probably could have worked really fast times. Very high acceleration and quickness....and then spit the bit out at four furlongs, and were lucky to break their maidens at bottom-level races. Seems their initi...

Re: American Pharoah
Because of his dam being so speed-bred I didn't take him for my Derby favorite but that win today was pretty wow. He's got so much class. This is such a good group of horses period. If I were an owner of one of them, it would feel like...REALLY? I have to have this incredible horse THIS year of all ...
