Re: Derby picks

Mubtaahij - Bolo - Dortmund.

"Mubtaahij" means "elated" in Arabic, which I hope to be shouting as I rush to the window waving my win ticket..

Re: Mucho Macho Man

TJ, many thanks. Glad to know its nothing serious. I knew he was pointing to the BC Classic and I will be there again to see him. One of my all-time favorites, with special affinity because I stroked his head at Saratoga through the kindness of his owner. He also confirmed for me then that he would ...

Mucho Macho Man

Does anyone know what is happening with Mucho Macho Man? He's had a variety of medical problems off and on, and has been out of sight for a long time. Any info would be appreciated. He's a favorite of mine. Thanks.

Greed Unlimited

What is the matter with Churchill Downs Inc.? I was able to watch the thrilling 2000 Guineas from Newmarket, UK, on Saturday but no one in the UK was able to watch the Kentucky Derby, because CD wanted so much money. (Read this in the Racing Post this morning.) You'd think they would want world-wide...

Lines of Battle

Des anyone know if Lines of Battle, Aidan O'Brien's UAE Derby winner, is coming for the Ky Derby? O'Brien said the Derby was the next stop after the UAE race,, but no sign or word of him. Sure would like to know what's going on....

I don't know for sure what's happening with Majestic Hussar, but I hope trainer Eddie Keneally isn't taking hm off the Derby trail. He got a ridiculously fast ride from Luis saez in Fountain of Youth, still finished 4th. He does well (better) coming from off the pace and should run all day if rated....

Sutherland off Game On Dude

Just learned that Baffert has replaced Suthereland on Game on Dude with Bejerano. My estimation of Baffert has just dropped to basement level. This is not my idea of loyalty or recogntion of ability. She and that horse were one unit, they made history together, and were set to go to the BC Classic f...

Been all over Mucho Macho Man since February, like him better every day, tomorrow we'll see: 1 - Mucho Macho Man 2 - Master of Hounds 3 - Dialed In 4 - Soldat 5 - Shackleford (Had to list 5 because I can't decide between Soldat and Shackleford for 4th place.) I hope to have to rent a truck to haul m...

Hi Walaa -- I'm late with this, just saw your post today. I was a youbet.com refugee, went to TwinSpires, suffered for 3 months, gave up. Worst site imaginable, and I told them why without ever getting a serious response. I'm now on DRF Bets and it is incomparably better than TwinSpires. Not as good...

Pinched back at start, slower than usual to find her stride, CHECKED AT TOP OF STRETCH BY QUALITY ROAD BACKING UP , angled out for stretch run. Sustained power in the stretch. Nothing to do with surface, everything to do with that check: when you lose momentum in a race in which there is no margin f...

Unbelievably sad news about Real Quiet, one of my all-time favorites, a brave and tested warrior on the track. I was planning a visit for next summer. Gone too soon.

Can't argue with your well-taken points, TJ. I think Belmont would actually be favorable to Zenyatta, given her size and long stride. I hadn't thought through the time-line, and you are right about her deserving a chance at something better than the Lady's Secret is likely to offer. I have little do...

You do have a piont about the stigma against synthetics, TJ -- and I too wished Z had been sent to run in something at Belmont, although it doesn't make good sense to do that if you're headed for Churchill shortly thereafter. I've been opposed to synthetics since they were invented -- thinking that ...

Zenyatta has already beaten not only this country's best in last year's BC classic, but also some of Europe's best -- some of whom are better this year and will be coming to the Classic again (e.g., Rip Van Winkle, possibly Twice Over, and some newcomers). She has already won at least twice on dirt ...

So: The Queen runs at much shorter than her best distance, her opponents run the slowest possible fractions, she's not overly fond of the track, and history is against her.

So she runs, and leaves all our best adjectives in the dust.

All hail!
