He still picked up a check...$10 million plus in earnings. No shame in his game...he had a long season. Asmussen said Curlin was off the bridle and it was like he was running a turf race. At least he gave synthetic a try and he wasn't thrilled about it either. The crowd gave him an ovation. He's st...

Thanks for the compliments! :) The point I was trying to make is that when it's done right sales prep is supposed to enhance the yearling's natural attributes, not create something that doesn't exist through unnatural means. A large portion of the yearlings in central Kentucky look just like mine. ...

It'll be interesting to see if they stay the same, get smaller, or get larger.

Re: 102

Politics 101: if you let your opposition frame the issue, you automatically lose. Why are you supine when it comes to the peta clowns? The first post asked a question about whipping. That question belongs in the racing forum. You have attempted to "reframe" the discussion into a PETA bashing that o...

BTW, I'm not anti-whipping, I use one on my horse to get the speed I need, but I also use it only when I feel she needs it, not over and over and over again. Fine, then give your hypothetical jockey instructions as to the limit. If she/he exceeds, fire her/him. A pretty easy solution, right? Withou...

steward, let me find someone in your neighborhood that can borrow a rider's stick to give you a couple of roundhouse whacks. Then you will have earned the right to define it as a "tiny piece of flap". I'd even wager that you'd want a four whack experience over the eight. Right now public perception...

I think it's a very fair question, and it's one that I don't know the answer to and would be interested in finding out. Is there a strict criteria for what constitutes excessive use of the whip, or is it basically subjective at the discretion of track stewards? I'm guessing it's up to the stewards....

Here's our 3-month old colt - we just noticed the horns [the 2 bumps on either side of the star; the dark mark below the star is his cowlick] a couple weeks ago: http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc307/KBEquine/080721faceshotfrontinclhornsPatch08.jpg He's cute. I wonder if his "horns" will grow as...

Re: Oh, brother, not this again

Yesterday I saw a race where one horse was hit eight times in the straight. In our country you may hit a horse max four times (the straight is 600 m.) How is this in the USA, does it depend which racecourse? In a world of filled with bona fide outrages, the extra four hits are #37,567,494 on my lis...

Could someone tell me what a horse has to "learn" about running on grass? I vote BC Classic. Attendance would be huge. It's a different surface. They have to get used to it, just because they have raced on a different surface doesn't mean they will come on to the other surface the same right away. ...

Big Brown
Heatseeker
Curlin (possibly)

There are a few others that escape my mind right now that are either scheduled to be retired/have been retired/or are rumored to be retired after this season.

I voted turf. I feel like people are discounting him off of one turf start (where he broke bad) where he finished 2nd and only a few workouts on turf. I'd like to see him in at least one more turf race where he gets a good break before I say he sucks on turf (which obviously he doesn't).

I heard (no idea if it's true) that Japan won't let horses back into their country if they are gone for a certain amount of time.
