Keep them turned out in large groups and remove 2 mares a time..Keep the foals out with the group. The foals can handle it.. They do well.. don't lose weight or anything.. Works well.. Ditto that one, works so well for me. I also add my babysitter mare into the group a couple of weeks before weanin...

Last time my brother in law had a mare at vessels they all wore numbered neck tags. They do a good deal of book work but then with as many mares as they breed I am sure mistakes have been made in the past. They will all work it out. Let's face it, mistakes are human, sad to say but it does happen an...

I have several run in sheds in various sizes all are open to the south and one is on top of a hill the rest are some where on level ground or mid hill. Height is 9 feel on back and 12 on front. I try to have my sheds at least 12 feet deep and 30 feet wide but I do have a couple larger than that and ...

I also pasture breed. My mares are out with the horse from about April 15th until about the end of June. During the off season, he is kept in a huge lot with an old companion mare or an old gelding. I know longer stand him to the public for this reason but my life is a lot simpler. He is happier and...

Actually this has been ongoing for a little while now. I have been stopped several times out in OK, TX and MO already. What a nightmare. It used to be that I did not need this since I told them I was trail riding but this year it doesn't matter

Are you sure he wasn't using liquid furacin? They took that off the market years back and the last time I got some it came from Canada.

Knowing a few stock contractors I can offer you what I know about the rough stock animals. Most are bred to be broncs. They have a very refined breeding program for these animals, take exceptional care of them, and pay a lot of cash for them. They have sales for young stock and while a few are gentl...

I had this happen at least twice to me. I sent them a registered letter (and a copy to my attorney), gave them 30 days to pay in full by certified check or cash or the horses would be sold at auction and they would be responsible for any remaining balance. Actually only had to sell one and had to ge...

I geld all of mine by June of their yearling year, they seem to grow better, but that is just my opinion on that one. I have found that if they don't make it as older horses then they are easier to place in homes or sell as geldings and my vets are a little cheaper to geld at that age than track vet...

Call the stable gate at Indiana Downs, a guy called in yesterday trying to sell alfalfa, his number is on a post it note near the phone. Local sale barn hay is going for about 4.00 to 450 a bale depending on what type it is. There is a guy in Illinois if I can find his info that raises irrigated hay...
