Re: Blazing Away Wins Again

Hi Joltman. Sorry, just saw your comment. Yes there are quite a few open races here. Our trainer runs a lot of Kentucky and Cal-breds, including multiple stakes winner Pendleton who came from one of the Kentucky sales. He's even got a son of American Pharoah. The only time we've shipped to Arizona i...

Re: Mahoning Cancelled and Other Reactions to this virus Fea

We had a bit of a setback when even training was shut down for a day or so. Fortunately, some of our legislators are horsemen and horsewomen, so there were some phone calls made and it didn't last long. But we're still down for the count for racing--even without spectators. There's a possibility if ...

Re: Blazing Away Wins Again

Now that racing has been shut down at Sunland Park due to the Coronavirus, it looks like Blazing Away won't have another start until probably May (at the earliest--if all goes well). We claimed our homebred on 4/20/19 as a 5YO coming up on a year without a win. In the last eleven months under our tr...

Re: Mahoning Cancelled and Other Reactions to this virus Fea

Our trainer just called to inform us Sunland Park has been shut down--six days before our big Derby prep race--the Sunland Derby (and Sunland Oaks). And Blazing Away was entered to run on the undercard. Now he's out of work for the time being. I agree we should be very cautious with the spread of th...

Re: Miss Pinkerton

Happy to report we found a new home for Belgian Candy. While she did break her maiden, she was always a bundle of nerves and racing was not her thing. She had very modest talent - decent brief speed but not much cruising speed - and the owner agreed to let her move on to a new home. This is always ...

Re: Miss Pinkerton

Time for a little Christmas break. :)

We're also seeing some tougher competition with the higher purses, and the higher purses are sometimes the result of a shortened meet, so a triple whammy -- fewer race days, fewer races, tougher company.

Re: Who's got runners?

Looks like a good one, Laurie! Best of luck! My Birdstone colt has a half sister in your neck of the woods, Whodatisaywhodat. She is entered at Zia Park Dec 10 Race 6. Thanks, Madelyn. He's had his first work over the Zia track now, so we're waiting to hear if he'll have an entry there before it cl...

Re: Who's got runners?

We've also entered a partnership on a 4YO gelding out of Golden Gate named Could Be the One. I should have added that he's now shipped to Zia Park. We don't know if he'll be ready to have a start over the track before the close of the meet, but Sunland Park opens on December 26th so that may be whe...

Re: Who's got runners?

Best wishes with Fenix, mehile. Let us know when he's entered. Blazing Away had an out on November 25th in a $41k allowance at Zia Park, but in spite of being on or near the lead all the way into the late stretch, and fending off two rivals who tried to overtake him, he was caught in the final strid...

Re: Who's got runners?

Super Senor (Super Saver x a SW daughter of El Gran Senor), a horse we owned in partnership, has been retired from racing at 5YO. Sadly, he didn't returned to form after coming up sore at Albuquerque in early summer, in spite of an extended lay-up and sending him to Turf Paradise to use the equine p...

Congrats, mehile! First work is a big milestone. :)

Keep us posted!

Thanks, mehile! It's been an absolute dream. Things don't often work out so well in this business!

Re:

We'll see how he does at Zia Park this fall. He's never won at the track before, but our trainer isn't concerned. I should have had more faith things would be different this time. Zinger (Blazing Away) won today going away, his first win over the Zia track. :D It was a 5-1/2 furlong race and one of...

Hey I Did Not Know you could enter a TB against Quarters! I have a filly that would work for! I wonder if Indiana allows it. The 870s are fairly common around here and it seems to me they ran them in Michigan back in the day too. Even when they're designated "QH" they allow TBs to run. (N...
