Re: stallion mating

You say your goal is breeding a NY Bred to race....knowing that 8 of 9 unproven stallions disappoint/fail, I would recommend using a proven sire of winners.

Re: look at the pedigree on Frankel's first winner

I like it! 3x3 sex balanced and centered Danehill and 3x3 sex balanced "delta" Sadlers Wells - very clever!

Re: Derby Stallions

Shawklit Won - I understand how great a sire Mr. Prospector was and how huge his influence is today. However he was a speed sire and did not have many that even made the Derby field. His lower number of Derby starters is more reflective of his speed oriented offspring rather than his foal crop size....

Re: Is this the new trend?

Wow BDW, not sure where to start with your post....let's do easy first. I think you mean "PHIPPS" not "Phelps". Asmussen is not Banke's errand boy, in fact his biggest owner is Winchell. Chad Brown does actually win races, check the stats. Regarding East Coast v West Coast, there...

Re: Derby Stallions

I have researched Derby fields back to 1957 and can say having 3 starters in the same Derby is a remarkable achievement! Below are the few times it has occurred: 2016 Tapit - Creator, Lani, Mohayman Uncle Mo - Mo Tom, Nyquist, Outwork 2002 winner War Emblem Gone West - 2nd Proud Citizen, 6th Came Ho...

Re: Derby Stallions

OK since no one else began any research on this, I just went through the last 20 years (through the 1996 Derby) - since then only in 2002 were there 3 horses in the Derby field by the same sire.....that sire was Gone West! Gone West starters were 2nd place finisher Proud Citizen, 6th place Came Home...

Re: Derby Stallions

Bold Ruler was indeed the dominant sire for quite some time, but did he ever have 3 starters in the same Derby?

Interesting question to research....

Re: Where's the Derby Fever??

Howdy TJ - thanks for the youtube links. I thought Majesto looked good in the video - long striding, easy moving and then took off again when asked by the rider after the wire. Interesting horse...remember Canonero!!! Saw this morning that early morning line has Creator at 15-1, wish i could lock th...

Derby Stallions

This year the Derby field includes 3 colts each for Uncle Mo (Nyquist, Outwork, Mo Tom) and Tapit (Creator, Lani, Mohayman) with Giants Causeway represented by two starters (Brody's Cause & Destin). Does anyone remember a previous Derby where almost half the field was the progeny of only 3 stall...

Re: Where's the Derby Fever??

I watched training Saturday morning at Churchill: Exaggerator & Brody's Cause both worked well and galloped out well. Mor Spirit is not a good moving horse (short strides, head down low) but they say he always moves like that. Lani was behaving better but is still something of a rogue; if it was...

Re: Unbridled's Song as a sire of sires

Everyone in the business has been burned by one or more son of Unbridled Song, soundness is always the issue - his most successful son would be either First Defence or Even The Score (libido issues). Midshipman has proven useful, and it is early in his career so he could surpass First Defence or Eve...

Re: how do i know the horse is sold at auction

In the event of a sale a ticket is taken to the buyer - the buyer signs, is given a copy and the ticket is sent to the office. If you are seated in the arena there will be a cluster of Keeneland employees to the left of the auctioneer's stand. One of these gentlemen will take the ticket to the buyer...

Re: Wise Dan has been retired

He was a great racehorse, and perhaps a bit under-appreciated. He was obviously a tremendous Turf Miler, but he also won the G1 Clark Handicap (1 1/8 miles) on the dirt and was beaten only a head in a driving finish of the G1 Stephen Foster (1 1/8 miles dirt). Wise Dan was also the beneficiary of a ...

Re: American Pharoah wins triple crown :)

AP is about 16.1, Dortmund always made him look smaller. Espinoza showed him the whip during the Belmont stretch run but only touched him twice.
An amazing performance by an amazing horse - ears pricked for the first 1 1/4 miles!
