I think the Rasmussen Factor is most simply described as inbreeding to a superior female within five generations through different individuals.

Were you looking for what it is (or more specific information)?

Well, I later recalled that our about to be 3 year old colt who is a 1/2 to our about to be 2 year old Northern Tribute is also 3x3 Northern Dancer (by Half Term instead of Roar). However, he is not on the small side at all as he is at least 16h and still growing. I guess you may increase the chance...

We have a yearling (about to become a 2 year old colt) which we just named Northern Tribute. He is inbred 3x3 to both Northern Dancer and Glowing Tribute. His aggregate % is about 28% (for both of the above). He is somewhat on the smaller side but well put together. I found it interesting that all o...

llbean, No doubt Ruffian was one of the greats. However, the daughter of Reviewer that was my favorite was Drama Critic. Very Honest mare who won 10 of 35 races (28 in the money) in the 70's. Skimming aside, I wonder if 2x3 is too close to inbreed. We have a few mares and last year got a foal that w...

I always find Skimmimg as an interesting case of a succesfully inbred horse as he is inbred to Northern Dancer 2x3 and earned more than 2 million dollars.

As far as the owners are concerned, I know of one owner in particular in CA that I had discussed the issue of which trainer he was going to send his new 2 year olds to. He was a bit torn between using one who he felt was more "old school" or one of the newer trainers with a high win % who he felt mi...

Busanda, I see where your mare Warm Allegations traces tail female to Busanda. I can see that with Jackpot you would be breeding her to a stallion who is also tail female to Busanda (in the 6th generation). If you are trying to keep the Rasmussen Factor in mind, then in California Memo might be a go...

I wonder if A P Indy does throw some amount of speed into his runners. In a sample size of 165, A P Indy is throwing first time starter winners at a rate of 15%. Now I am sure some of those are making their first starts at a route. However, I would venture to guess that the majority of those are lik...

Bill,

Iced Out did close well on a speed favoring track yesterday.
However, I downgraded his performance a bit due to it being a 5 horse field with all 4 others being front runners.

Looks vs ability question

Is there any studies that show any correlation between how much a foal looks like a particular ancestor and his racing ability? I realize this is a broad question as we can consider different ways that the foal can look like an ancestor. In my more spefic question- can color and markings being nearl...

Johar, I enjoyed reading your post. On the same theme here, I recall being at an auction with a friend with a good eye for a horse. I saw that a full brother to a good stakes winner was in the ring and bringing less than what he would appear to be able to bring based on his catalog page. My friend g...
