my two cents

Hi- Long time but miss the forum! My favorite remedy which has worked on many large wounds is scarlet oil- I found it from an old vet when one of my horses came home from the trainer with a very *large* wound in her chest from the trainer- the vet told me after ligating the severed artery- that all ...

Just in case anyone needs a hauler in the future- I found a ride for my horse on Hauled Wright. they showed up on time with a nice trailer , loaded my horse with precision and got her on her way without any problems.
www.hauledwright.com - if anyone else needs a long distance ride.

interesting cross post

CASEY RESPONDS TO CHARLES TOWN ARTICLE As a Veterinarian who works at Charles Town Race Track, I take particular exception to Wayne Harrison's comment "we are in the ice age here on drug testing" in a VTA Insider story published July 25. His remarks imply that horses are "drugged" more frequently th...

Transport needed VA to Kansas

I am looking for a ride for one horse from the Charlottesville VA area to just outside Kansas City if anyone is going that way or knows of a ride.
thanks-
I could haul the horse up to Charlestown or Colonial Downs if there is a ride out.

Thanks everyone for your empathy and advice. I was wondering about EPM myself. I thought that something else was going on to cause the choke- a muscular disease or a stricture/ growth in the GI tract. We decided against an autopsy but in hindsight maybe we should have tried to "donate her body to sc...

thanks for the support. This has been a really tough year- my first year into the horse racing world. I think there really isn't much that hasn't gone wrong now that I have lost one. From breeding to training to racing injuries to this now..... I have never had any serious injuries or health problem...

Hi! Mountain Feists are a small (20#) breed probably from the likes of Jack Russells among others- they are very smart and make good family pets or around here are used as treeing dogs for squirrels. Fine Living had an article on the feists- it can be found by "googling" which describes these little...

Registered Mountain Feists- as I only have three to place they are for sale right now- interested? Murjan is an easy broodmare with no caslicks, no proble...

choking on hay?

My last hope for 2005 racing had to be put down yesterday. My 2 year old had just started light training- ie broke to ride but not galloping. I got a phone call from the trainer on Saturday saying that she had choked on hay that morning and that the vet was coming back out later to try to move the i...

Yes- as above I did go and visit the site and when I dropped my mare off she was led into a beautiful stall with fresh alfalfa hay. I became suspicious after the non answers to my questions. If I had any idea I would never have left her there. As I live a distance away- I could not just rush up ther...

One more vote of confidence for fly predators. They really do work- I had almost no flies last year and we had lots of rain.
You have to be sure to spread them out over your pastures though and not just deposit in one area.

Hmmm- no names- but my mare went to a "well respected" farm in WV- I delivered her myself with a neck strap that seemed to go missing shortly after that. After several phone calls with the manager not being able to tell me if my mare had cycled yet- I decided to show up and see for myself. After wal...
