Thanks for the update on the youngsters--it's nice to see them all grown up and doing well at the track. Good luck to them all. My 2 yo Scrimshaw colt is in training right now too--not quite ready for any works yet.

Artie Schiller Foals

Ascot--I've got two AS foals, a colt and a filly, and they are both exceptional looking foals. They are both tall, and extremely correct with a nice shoulder and hip. They both have similar easy temperaments. It would be difficult to find fault with either of them right now but they're still quite y...

Caraway has done a great job training our filly thus far and has been able to give her the personalized attention no other trainer seemed to be able to offer. The filly is coming back after a significant lay-up due to a soft tissue injury while training on poly-track (a common occurence, it seems), ...

I was talking to a Taylor Made employee yesterday--he said from the foals he's seen Artie S seems to be passing along a nice hip, which is certainly the case with our filly. I'm quite high on Artie and were breeding back at least one mare this year.

Re: Artie Schiller looks like a good deal

Artie Schiller won the Breeder's Cup Mile over Leroidsanimaux. He is out of multiple Grade I winner Hidden Light. He comes from the family of Ferdinand and Prince True. Of all the El Prados he offers more value than Kitten's Joy and Medaglia D'Oro and at least half the price. Unproven stallions are...

Sunday Break is pretty much All American, though, as bloodlines go.. I think Forty Niner was here for seven years siring offspring before he took up permanent residence in Japan. Catequil is by Storm Cat who has never left the US. There are several horses available in KY that have Mr. Prospector on...

I haven't seen a good conformation photo of Silent Name, but there has been a lot of discussion recently about the excellent quality of Japanese racing and Hat Trick is a G1 winner as well as a G2 winner on dirt. His dam is an all American, however, and so that's why I was wondering about his succe...

I look at a stallions strengths (Silent Name was a great 7-8F runner) and his weaknesses (he is not quite 16 Hands, actually 15.3+ is his true measure), and try and breed a good racehorse without sacrifricing much. At under 16 hands, my point was that I wouldn't want to take a small mare to him. And...

I personally like Scrimshaw a lot as a breed to race sire and he is a very nice looking stallion. I have a beautiful yearling colt by him and I have'nt seen a bad looking foal of his at the sales. Scrimshaw definitely "stamps" his foals. Unfortunately, his progeny don't have commercial value (althou...

I really think that Silent Name's best distance was between 7-8F and that his performance would have been much better had he been kept at his best distance. Having said that--I think the key to breeding with Silent Name (as with any stallion) is to breed to his strengths AND his weakness. So a mare ...

Silent Name gets my vote! I saw him the day after he arrived at Adena Springs--although a little thin from racing, he's a great looking stallion and I really like the way Danzigaway's pedigree is constructed. I agree with Madelyn that Silent Name is a much better breeding bargain at his 7.5K fee.

Maven, Hills,

Can you give some examples of some of the "issues" you're seeing on the vet reports (no need to be soecific about a particular hip)?

Just curious.................
