That's exactly the kind of stuff this sport needs. He was great. Isn't that why we all got into this?

Thanks Zinn. Probably wouldn't seem as tough if I could raise them at home in the beginning to cut expenses. The apartment complex tends to frown upon that though.

Ark Royal-Getting Started

It's tough sitting on a horse and waiting until this point in his 3yr old season for him to get started, even though you know it was the right thing to do. When he steps on the track this morning for his first gallop after leaving the training center, the time and money will somehow seem worth it. :D

Seems to me the bigger story lies a few paragraphs down with the diversion of funds to cover operating loses. It just keeps getting uglier. To think that a business needs someone to step in and require that they put together a 5 year business plan (since they obviously don't have a plan) tells you w...

Strong showing by Bankable. I'm sure he'll be favored in the sprint on World Cup Day. Can anyone confirm that the surface is a type of poly rather than dirt?

Casual racing fans do not see it as a sport. It's like a night at the casino or movies-it's entertainment. We all grew up playing Football & Baseball so we understand you can't take the physical punishment all year and generally if you like one sport, you like both. Very few grew up in racing an...

I didn't read the article yet, but I've been saying for years that tracks should run all year. I've never gotten the concept of opening for a couple months, attracting a fan base, then telling them to go away till next year. Just bad marketing and a waste of advertising dollars. Year round tracks wo...

My guess is that Reenci is partly correct with many telling you they are sore. In previous years, the drugs would mask that. Also, I'm guessing trainers don't spend the time standing them in the gates in the morning the way they used to. Horses get rushed through and jocks need to get back for their...

bdw- I don't disagree about RA having speed. I just don't think she's the horse she was last year and she'll be under a lot of pressure in this race. If she's 11 back in this one, Z will beat her by 20.

While it would be great for racing, I think the connections would do RA a disservice by running the BCC. Quality Road will wear her out by the 3/4 and the result would look like the Whitney except that Z will be ahead on Blame's outside. We can only hope Z gets that kind of pace in front of her. We ...

In my usual defense of Bid as the best ever and best over 3 years, here are some of the major races he won: Champagne Stakes (1978) Laurel Futurity (1978) Young America Stakes (1978) Hutcheson Stakes (1979) Florida Derby (1979) Strub Series (1980) San Fernando Stakes (1980) Santa Anita Handicap (198...
