Madelyn, I am surprised to hear you say that you do take sales prices into account but do NOT take RNA numers into account. Weanling and Yearling prices are mostly based on confirmation, the sires stud fee, and the success of siblings. Its very much a crap shoot. Look at the Green Monkey as was ment...

You are correct I was the breeder and the horse went off at 25-1 and that was good. Okay. So there is a 10 horse field. Every horse in the race happened to be in an early OBS sale. Each horse is by the same sire. 9 of the horses RNA'd for $2,000 and one of the horses RNA'd for $1,000,000. Each horse...

Horses are not RNA'd because there is NO live money on them, they just don't have an amount bid on them to meet the minimum a seller wants. In the instance I sited, the last live money bid was 68,000. I suspect that the difference between us is that I have participated in 2YO sales and you have not.

Not exactly sure what you are asking but perhaps you know you can follow any horse with the drf.com horse watch feature.

casallc you and the others might be right with regard to horses offered as weanlings or yearlings. I should have been more specific. 2YO sales numbers mean alot. You don't takea horse to a 2YO sale and RNA it just for the heck of it. It is expensive to get a horse to one of those sales so you don't ...

Improving the Daily Racing Form

I think the DRF has done a great job at providing additional useful information. A great possible addition could be adding RNA numbers to runners. For example, last night at Indiana Downs a horse named Ladystarturengine (an Indiana bred) raced in a MSW for filly 2YO's. She RNA'd at the OBS 2YO in tr...

Probably no better stallion on the small side than Northern Afleet. I agree on Northern Afleet. Short but great muscle. He does have very soft pasterns though so your mare better be on the upright side there. I also don't think he has done all that great with Northern Dancer line mares. The birth c...

Birdstone. Small horse with some big runners.

Should be able to get to him for a decent price. Stallion register says he is 15.3 but I've seen him and I don't think he is that big. No need to tell you small horse equals low sales price so I hope you are breeding to race.

NASCAR doesn't have gambling, and they get tens of thousands to their big races and tens of thousands more around the country for their lesser circuits. Heck, you'll see 2,000-5,000 people at a country racetrack for dirt track racing every Friday or Saturday night from May through September. Now th...

Casallc it is very cool that people in Oklahoma enjoy casino and track gambling. I think you are right that the fact that Oklahoma has a history with horses helps attendance. I am told Indiana Downs which is located in farm country may also be part of a small pocket of successful tracks. Shared owne...

"Someone asked me the other night what I would do if I won the $650 million lottery.. I told them I'd probably keep breeding and racing horses as long as the money lasted. " Griff, If you're like me, youll be reading from a lot lower Book numbers than usual.  I am convinced DERBY FEVER ...

GOODBYE TO AN ERA - IT SURE WAS FUN

For people who love the thoroughbred horse racing industry accepting the fact that industry will soon end is a bitter pill to swallow. Horse racing had a virtual monopoly on gambling for decades and as a result lost the competitive drive that is required to succeed. In 1960 horse racing had huge att...

I have used this farm for several years and it is first rate. I saved a ton of money compared to the $23 a day I spent in KY and the pastures are great. I also like the Indiana program and think it is a better value than even PA because I'm not running against Storm Cats and Candy Ride type competit...

He got to the farm late and had little to no hype. He is the most impressive horse in the barn and I LOVED him. My mare was late so I only took 1 shot at him and came up empty. I'm guessing the cheap prices are a reflection of lower quality mares than he should have covered. Was anyone else blown aw...
