Archy Silver Hawk has done really well with Danzig line mares but I like the paper match with Smooth Jazz, this mating rates a GSV of 62.75, not bad, and the cross gives a 5X5 to Northern Dancer, a 4X5 to Drumtop and 4X5 to the full brothers His Majesty and Graustark. The match I really like is with...

roger I do not know the reasons why A.B. Hancock purchased Rough Shod II but I can guess that the reason he bred her to Nantallah was to emulate James R. Keene's practice of breeding stout European mares to speedy American sires. It is also interesting to note that when Moccasin and Thong were bred ...

roger Yes you did ask for opinions as to why the Nantallah/Rough Shod II cross worked so well, and if anybody can answer that they could probably charge a lot of money for their breeding advice, we can all guess as to why but it is an elusive answer. Why did they import Rough Shod II in the first pl...

kimberley mine Traditionally "nicks" have been defined as one sire line crossed with another sire line. Firetop is a mare that also appears in The Minstrel, Skip Trial and Free America, so I would not consider this a nick however you bounced around one of the really productive nicks in recent years ...

roger Of course Princequillo mares would produce more winners and higher earners by other sires, we are talking about an 8 time leading broodmare sire, his daughters were covered by many leading sires, Nasrullah and Bold Ruler were only two of them. Again, I agree that even if a nick was present it ...

This topic was discussed somewhat in another forum that I participate in and most of the comments reflect what has been said here. It is obvious that throughout the history of the breed the best chance for success has been to breed the best to the best and hope for the best. Any survey or data you c...

roger I do not see that the Bold Ruler/Nasrullah - Princequillo nick was a negative. Secretariat and Seattle Slew, two triple crown winners both show the cross, Secretariat sire/broodmare sire and Seattle Slew is back in the pedigree. Princequillo had a very limited opportunity to cover daughters of...
