Re: Apples And Oranges

Yes and No on the sire line being important. On a genetic level, All equine Y's are very similar. Ponies, Draft horses, and TB's. Last paper on the subject indicates that there are three minor differences on the Y. However that paper was several years ago, so things might have changed quite a bit. H...

American Pharoah's paint sister

Anyone have a photo of the unnamed full sister to American Pharoah? A friend mentioned that she's a paint. The other full sibling Irish Pharaoh has high white socks all around and a wide blaze.

Re: Another white family in Japan.

In other white horses there is a connection with black coat color. Many have the potential to carry (a) or brown instead of the more common A- Bay. No, not something mystic, but like white markings being more likely to express on chestnut, there may be something that allows maximum expression of Dom...

Mother Nature loves horses the color of dried grass. Pearl is a recessive dilute. Only expresses with two copies present. Or perhaps it can be described as a weak dilute. Two copies give results like one copy of the Cream gene. It may act to lighten the effects of the cream gene, resulting in a perl...

Were these horses bred for the Sport Horse market? If they are supposed to be racehorses, that's a different matter. In both cases the sire didn't exactly burn up the track, and the dams aren't great either. Just because a horse in inbred to Storm Cat, or Northern Dancer doesn't mean that they got a...

Mac, The filly is probably a Dominant White mutation, from her dam Turf Club. This is a KIT mutation in the same region of the gene that has sabino, roan, and other white color patterns. Other notable DW mutations include the stallions Airdre Apache, and Puccillini. You might like the Painted Desert...

I'd like to add the skill of the humans booking mares. Or the human selection factor. Careful stallion management can do wonders, bad management can kill a stallion's chances.

Looks to me like there was a gene switched off/on very early in the formation of the embryo. Maybe as early as the first cell division. Also shows that the lobster has a very high degree of bi-lateral symmetry Wonder if the lobster breeds true, or it is a reaction to some sort of chemical exposure?

And it should be noted that he's more likely to carry a bigger % of the Secretariat X than Buckpasser. Also the % of inbreeding to Bold Ruler is pretty high. And quite a bit via two different Secretariat grandsons.

He's got Nijinski in the 5th generation. So not completely free of Northern Dancer. But only a trace.

Depending on the software used by the database, there's been some php (Server Side) changes. And some of these are wreaking havoc on some databases.

Hi PZ, I've been looking at what is one the X for about 5 years, and in most of the cases--based on what photos were available. Most of the cases seem to be following the X in the first and second damsire. Which statistically would be the expected result. Ditto with looking at sons who wouldn't have...

You might look at Fair Play / Rock Sand. Lots of good horses from this combination. Also if I'm understanding correctly Friars Carse might qualify. Would the AP Indy x Storm Cat crosses qualify? There have been lots of these done in all sorts of combinations. Just looked at a pedigree--someone racin...

Well, you could take a look at High Time. By Ultimus out of a daughter of Domino.

High Time was blinding fast for 2 furlongs. And is found in Quarter Horse pedigrees.
