It looks like maybe the original color/marking pattern is there on the skin, but then overlaid with a layer of white hair. You can definitely see the outline of reddish color and all white under the general whitish layer. You see that happening down his leg, too, so it looks gray not black. He seems...

I was speaking more about the pedigree as a whole not as a stud prospect. I always like seeing Sadlers Wells in a pedigree and the inbreeding to Special is just a bonus. I'm a sucker for the turfy types though. That's fine, but a pedigree without performance to match it is just a bunch of names arr...

I fail to see how this horse's pedigree is that "great" since there's a serious lack of black-type under his first three dams. None of the dams are stakes horses themselves. Wrote is his dam's only stakes horse. Al Moulatham, stakes placed once, was Desert Classic's only stakes horse. Durrah produce...

I would say he's probably a "wild bay" with a "gulastra plume". I believe that the black on the legs is very limited (to the lower leg I think) and/or lightened on wild bays so that it's hard to see and could easily be masked by this horse's stockings. He doesn't appear to have any rabicano characte...

Re: the credit goes to Mr. Prospector
Certainly the credit goes to Mr. Prospector because he has had 12 Derby winners carrying his line. However, these 12 winners also carry the RAN sire line. There is no getting around this and the total number of Derby winners carrying the RAN sire line ( with or without Mr. Prospector) is still 18 a...

OR could it be that it is a rare horse that is equally as successful at a mile and 3/16ths as a mile and a half? Why get your hat handed to you in the Preakness if you have a legit shot in the Belmont? The Preakness also has tight turns and tends to favor speedier horses that can win from the front...

I just read in the Huffington Post that the "gay" gene is passed in the X chromosome in humans. The article explains how this impacts the female relatives of gay men. My impression from that one article is that this is no more than a hypothesis from phenotypic evidence as was the equine "X factor" ...

He's registered a chestnut, but my Quarter Horse friend told me he looks more like a sorrel. Whatever that means! I have no idea. Thanks. I was just curious about them, they are very unique and people ask me all the time about the spots. That probably means he's a very reddish chestnut. Westerners/...

Re: Bay with white hairs throughout
Hi Just wanted to share this mare from Hastings Park. Her registered name is P S Touch Down. http://www.pedigreequery.com/p+s+touch+down She's a bay with white hairs throughout her coat, as she has gotten older more of the white hairs have shown up. Kind of neat. Not a great photo, but you can see ...

My point about NASCAR was that people are attracted to racing as a competitive sport whether there's money bet on it or not, whether it's cars or horses or school buses or go-karts, and if it's marketed smartly, it can be very popular. Motor racing uses corporate sponsorship and horse racing uses pa...

I am loath to admit that Churchill Downs has done something right (they treat the horseman and the horses as a COMPLETE nuisance) but the Downs After Dark over the past few seasons has brought literally thousands of "new" fans in the younger "party crowd" generation. I would like to see more racetr...

I don't see how the state can allow casinos off the Native American reservations since the NYS Constitution expressly forbids them. The Native American casinos are allowed because of federal law. In order to amend the state constitution, the voters have to approve the amendment in two consecutive el...

Man! What a really bad photo. He actually might have a great hip - it's the entirely wrong angle. Can't really tell but his neck looks really weedy. I agree that that pic does it's best to make the horse look his worst! He could be better -- or not. OTOH, he's definitely from different bloodlines t...
