According to the morning news reports, governor Bill Richardson has called for and received the suspension of TVG betting in New Mexico. The telecasting of the races will not be interrupted, only the ability to bet online or via telephone. Personally, I'm neutral on the issue and not sure of the reasoning behind it, but I suspect it's a move to further bolster the in-state racing industry. We'll have two tracks coming online in the near future and a third (Santa Fe Downs) possibly reopened.
I'm not savvy on the business end of the paramutual industry, and I'm wondering if anyone has any comments on what the impact of this action may be. Do you think more states will follow suit?
