Good gravy! The Freakness at its finest (or not).

And wins with his character. --Tesio

Looks like it is already hitting the intended demographic. Eliott in the Morning on DC101 was talking about Kegasus this morning. I liked "Get your Preak on" but this is pretty funny too. For people that actually have a sense of humor this is the kind of advertising that gets their attention. The MJC is not trying to draw the 45-65 year olds to the infield, so why would they put out an ad campaign that reaches out to the whiteheads.

Seems to me the bigger story lies a few paragraphs down with the diversion of funds to cover operating loses. It just keeps getting uglier. To think that a business needs someone to step in and require that they put together a 5 year business plan (since they obviously don't have a plan) tells you what's happening to our sport.

Well I am glad I am not a Maryland tax payer bc I'd be mad as hell those fools want money to pay for operating losses with the half baked ideas they come up with. If they want a concert mosh pit then do it, the same young little drunkards they are 'targeting' would go to that too. Do they think that horse racing is even a passing thought of 90% of infield attendees.... especially once they're there for more than 30 minutes ? The Kentucky Derby and Belmont maintain their class without stooping to these new levels of beerguttedness...... and last I checked Pegasus was a winged horse not a centaur...where do they find these people and worse yet why do they pay them for these 'ideas'?? If they had been smart (which true to form doesn't happen much) they'd had a contest from the 'target' demographic and had people submit their idea of what Preakness infield should be.... heck of a lot cheaper too.
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while. :)

I wouldn't use the words "class" and "Kentucky Derby infield" in the same sentence. Unless guys pretending to be Girls Gone Wild camera men filming the flashers or a girl who was taking money for flashing so she could pay to get her car out of impound after it got towed. The people going to the Derby infield are no different to those that head to the Preakness infield.

The infield is what it is, a party and thats what the MJC is marketing. The first thing non racing people tell me when they find out I train in MD is how much they love the Preakness party. They go and bet that day, the majority don't care nor want to care about racing the rest of the year. But if it gets them out to spend a buck that day mission accomplished. Unfortunately with racing has died with the times, young people don't want to sit around for 4 or 5 hours to watch 10 races, much like they don't want to sit at a boring baseball game for 9 innings.

The world has changed big time in the past 50 years, they could be prim and proper and hold a philharmonic concert or opera in the infield but nobody would show up and the MJC would be even further in the hole needing more taxpayers dollars.

Au contraire, if you notice I never put the words "infield" and class together for KD or Belmont. I know it's just as big a party atmosphere but at least I have never seen such sophomoric advertising attempts made about them or their infields being the CENTER of attention for the day.
The world has changed MUCH in the last 50 years it's true and I may have only been around for a fraction of it, I don't think it's all been for the best in the least. Decorum and class are going the way of the dinosaur, and if stunts like MJC is pulling for a HUGE racing day is the only rabbit they can pull out of the hat then racing is going to be the new brontosaurus too.
FWIW I think putting on concerts/fests in the summer when racing is dead would actually net them some money without playing politics or looking for taxpayers to bail them out. Let's face it, the MJC and Stronach aren't GM or Bank of America. Want to turn the public against you? Take their money and toss it into the wind.
