Very sad day today. Trainer Charlynn Taketa (wife of fellow trainer and retired jockey Jerry Taketa), died this morning after being kicked in the face by a loose horse. She was walking her horse over to the walker for a cool down when the incident occurred. She died at the scene after attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful. Very nice lady, who will be missed. RIP Lynn....

Ya just never know. Be kind to everyone.
Isn't that the truth?! When your time is up, it's up. Apparently, she didn't even know what hit her.......
It is a risk we all take everyday when working with our horses. I know that I have a yearling filly who is just waiting for me not to be paying attention so she can get me
Thank you both for your thoughts and comments.

kicked in the face by loose horse
I got kicked on the side of my face in November l987. Someone at the farm where I boarded my horses left three non thoroughbreds out in a field but failed to tell anyone that they were there. When I was bringing in my stallion , the loose horses ran up to him and started a huge horse fight. I either got shoved down and hit a rock, hit a fence post or got kicked - I spent my 40th birthday in the hospital with a broken jaw in two places, l4 multiple fractures to my temple area & skin lascerations - the people who owned the farm failed to notify their insurance carrier that they were running a boarding, race training, stable - a huge place with multiple barns & many many horses - long and short of it - it took 5 years to go through the courts in New Hampshire - they now can't "board horses" because they won't pay the insurance on the place. Crystal knows these people and about this accident - the loose horses were the property of the co owner of the farm and he refused to pay any of my medical bills - the doctors told me that if I had been kicked 1/2 inch higher then I would be a vegetable or even dead. I have some headaches now and can't hear out of my left ear. The guy did a foolish thing by leaving those horses out at night but his daughter did an even more foolish thing by not allowing the outside lights on - I probably could have gotten out of the way if I had seen them -

The poor woman
Hopefully she really didn't see what hit her and therefore didn't suffer. A freak accident, my thoughts go out to her husband and family.
mini's mom - wow sounds like you are very fortunate to here! It's amazing how things can change in the blink of an eye.
