I am a bit surprised that since the bulk of the initial 50k funding to Texas horse was by the board members at the time from the TTA. Where was the initial funding from all the other associations listed on the Texas Horse website drawn from, where did the other money come from, and what does the TTA membership get out of being a member of Texas Horse?
Better yet, there is currently a lawsuit being played out against the NCHA and former TTA ED Jeff Hooper for not providing open financial records to its membership. I wonder if that trail will cross the path of the other associations.
When you look at the officers of Texas Horse and see the president was the president of the TTA, VP is the president of the THP, and Treasurer is the ED of NCHA. It starts to make some sense of the behavior and lack or representation we had at the race dates debates and in the Texas legislature. It was not only all about slots; it was also about control of the industry, calender, and slots money by the QH folks over the TB folks!
The comment from the QH board member was that ADW would do them no good, because their purses were nothing and double nothing is still nothing. IRM's would do them no good because tripling nothing is still nothing. These folks not only support nothing but slots, they oppose anything else that might have a positive impact on the industry, because they view any positive impact will make it more difficult to get slots passed. They are single minded and absolute in their thinking and probably have some justification for it.
They had a plan and spent many months putting it together to create a crisis big enough to get the legislators attention-the crisis was the loss of TB racing opportunity and industry!!!! This is my political opinion and hopefully it will spark the readers to asking questions of their representatives as to where they stand and why!

A little cut and paste from another forum. Sound famaliar?
justathought, I do understand what you are getting out but I believe you are overreacting. As you are aware Texas H.O.R.S.E. is an organization comprised of of several Equine organizations with The AQHA, APHA, NCHA, TTPHA being the largest. The organization was formed to lobby for allowing slot machines to be used at various dog and horse race tracks and three Indian reservation in Texas. All the members of the major organizations have representatives serving in various functions wherein Jeff Hooper is Secretary/ Treasure. Jim Helzer who signed the 2008 return was president of the AQHA. As you are aware the Executive Committee had to approve the NCHA joining the organization. As far as "what is Hooper and Ivey REALLY getting out of the this?" A JOB! I believe Mr. Hooper's job description would include him developing various means to generate revenue's for the NCHA. IE STATE TAX MONEY. I would be surprised if Ivey spent very much of his time as respects the Texas H.O.R.S.E.. Texas H.O.R.S.E. has not been a secret but you have not heard allot about them until the State came in session this year . If the bill were passed and the Texas voters voted for the change the first years revenue to the NCHA is estimated to be 1 to 1 1/2 million dollars with following years revenues estimated to be 4 to 5 million dollars. If you are from Texas I would hope you called or wrote your representative in support of HB 2111. As respects your question "if Ivey would keep all my records at no charge?" If the Executive Committee approved the request and there was the opportunity of you generating revenue to the NCHA of 4 to 5 million dollars a year I believe Ivey would be more than happy to help. I would recommend you write the Directors in your area or the Executive Committee of your concerns and come to the convention in June.

Key, NCHA lawsuit over, they won. Move on. Do you not have any current events to post on this forum instead of archived info? The money the TTA put into TX Horse was donated. With all the TX horse and dog interests combined, it made a strong coalition of 88,000 members. It's called unity, you should try it sometime instead of alienating yourself.

From what I understand it is still not over, it was just interesting reading for the folks. As far as unity goes, the unity was slots or nothing and it succeeded in getting nothing to complete the decade of incompetence. It almost succeeded in reducing the racing opportunity and the thoroughbred industry to nothing also.
The refusal of the thoroughbred associations to address the needs and concerns of the industry just so that they will not upset the QH coalition is another reason to be sure and cast your ballots for change in the upcoming TTA election!! It is time for change and the need to change the direction of the industry.

Liar, Liar, Liar, is the way you should start out all of your posts concerning Key. It does not matter what is in the transcripts of the TRC or what the truth is to others, you have not responded completely to Tinners Way post concerning the vote that was not a vote or the absolute vicious attacks you and your associates have had against me and my little farm. For you to be the next president of the TTHBPA after this showing of lack of class and character, no wonder the association is so out of touch with its membership.
Where is the apology for the false accusations? If Terry Blanton said there was a vote that was not a vote and you do not question his integrity, then what does that say about you and the efforts of the board members to put down the efforts of the few to keep a racing circuit in tact for all Texas horsemen!!!

I asked a simple, straightforward, unpretentious, unthreatening question, and I am lambasted with personal and mal-intended insults! Manifest hypocrisy of “mushroom” civility is thus posted for anybody that can read to see. I have never made a false accusation nor have I ever “attacked” Joe Kerby or his farm, and I defy anyone to find a post, or any other documentation, that proves otherwise. This is the most unreasonable, unfounded and threatening response that I have ever read on this forum, and because “mushrooms” tolerate it, you must all be painted with the same brush as the one who posted it. Res ipsa loquitur.
We on the boards are doing our best to serve the horsemen of Texas and, because of physical threats that go with the job, my wife now actually fears for her and our livestock’s well-being. So who would like to assume my office on the TTHBPA board? If, in the last twelve months, as an owner, you’ve run two or more horses in a total of five or more races to fulfill the eligibility clause of the bylaws, give me a call if you are a risk taker. The thin-skinned need not apply. There is more than one position open.

I can agree with this statement now, but it took a lot communication on the part of the membership to get to this point. Its not that you guys were not working, its just that we saw different needs.

Its just a matter of opinion. I think we are in good company. We don't always agree with what each other post, but we have a common goal.
I think you are trying to say something like you are known by the company you keep. That means you and gate are painted by the same brush or that you have the same values and characteristics. He is a name caller so I guess that makes you a name caller. You really need to improve your standards for who you keep company with. In my opinion.

Ok Ajo, simple questions then. Was it not you with Lane Hutchins posting signs and handing out flyer's at Retama Park a year ago stating that I had cost folks their jobs by testifying in front of the TRC? Was it not you that said you would not breed at Key Ranch for whatever reason and finally was it not your mares billing records that were turned in to the TVMA by Shifflett on the TTA board as proof that I was practicing Veterinary Medicine without a license. Just which part of this is it that I am confused about my dear Dr. My livelihood and the livelihood of about 1/2 the Texas horsemen was under assault from the associations that were supposed to represent and protect our interests!!! Again, which part of this am I confused about. Long after SHRP agreed to TB dates, the THP president was at SHRP applying pressure to run no TB dates!! The secret meetings to coordinate the loss of 48% of the racing opportunity in order to quote, get the legislators attention, began in November of 2009 as stated by Drew Shubeck in front of the TRC! Which part of this am I confused about? The location and the financing of Texas Horse is in the offices of the THP and all the organizations were promised large chunks of money for kicking in support for the slots or nothing agenda!! Which part of this is it I do not understand? How far down this rabbit hole do you want me to go? It was nothing but a conspiracy to defraud the horsemen and and the state of Texas in my opinion and I would suggest that you and your little friends find a new source of entertainment than screwing with me and mine!!
There is no excuse, and none of the mushrooms have ever threatened physical violence or injury to anyone. We have maintained the hope that the debate would be over ideas and not about the personal attacks we have seen. There is a big difference between talking about the perceived problems of the associations and the individual board members of those associations. If you see no problem with the way the TTHBPA has represented its membership through the race dates debates both last year and this, then there is a real disconnect with a large portion of the membership.
As far as painting everyone with the same brush, well we are all in the same leaky boat trying to survive the economy, the high vet and feed bills, and the assault on our livelihood by our representative associations!! Yes, you can paint us with the same brush if that will help us all survive!

Joe, I did NOT go to Retama Park with Lane Hutchins or anybody else to pass out flyers. I was at home in Fredericksburg that night, and heard about it the following day. Period!
I asked you twice for vet records on my mares while you had them at Key Ranch, because my vet wanted to know who had performed the Caslick's procedures and what other procedures and meds had been administered, and you stated clearly that you had misplaced the records and could therefore not give me a vet's name or the treatment administered. I therefore submitted your bill, which reflected the vet charges for particular services rendered, to parties that were interested in the treatments my mares had received at your facility. How else could I have documented their treatment, since you could not provide me with the specific information I requested? I did not submit the record to the TVMA, and never intended to do so. However, this bit of accusative chicanery has now caused me further suspicion and alarm, and I do not understand your driving efforts to alienate an ex-customer. I'm through posting here.

Ajo, you were identified by one of the clients and I have no reason to not believe you were not there. Second, this is a breeding farm and not a Veterinary facility and we are not required to keep medical records and do not. Veterinarians that work under contract work under herd numbers and not individual records since the farm is paying them by the hour. The only record would be the one you had and the one that was turned into the investigators. So the question is how did that get from your hands to theirs? Your mares came to our little farm, got pregnant and delivered live foals. The procedures done to acheive that goal were successful and done a few years back. The only reason to be seeking the information from us was to find some useful leverage over me to impact my operation financially. It was what the flyer was about, what the slander suite is about, and what the Veterinary complaint was about!!
As far as the TRC involved in or suggested that the flyer be posted at Retama is the most ridiculous statement yet! As far as who was doing what and when, I would suggest you ask Terry Blanton and your ED. The bottom line was that the racing calender that was submitted in the beginning was all about control of the racing calender and potential slot revenue and the planners and promoters of that fiasco are still in place is very troubling!
