February covers!

Postby madelyn » Sun Feb 19, 2023 9:50 am

Gott two client mares that came Dec 19th. We put underl lights and they are both ready to breed!! Heading out with one today and the other tomorrow.

I installed all new LED lights in the barn when those first came out and put four in each stall of the daylight 100w equivalent and they sure did the trick.

Good luck with them! I’ve had one under lights and hopefully will send her to KY soon. She’s a tough one, very quiet with her heat cycles.

Anybody use those hoods that have eye cups that emit enough light to do the trick? I've seen the harness guys use it.

I have this terrific huge handsome gelding who is clueless that he can't be a real boy without those nuts lost at two and turned out with mares he smooches them and teases them so that even the dead quiet ones will at least buckle and break down a bit.

I've seen them on all those herds of mares in Lexington that don't see the inside of a barn. They cost a lot and look to have about the durability of a fly mask. It would be my luck my rambunctious playful lot would rip those off each other and lose them somewhere in the back 40.

Those mares were bred Sunday at 2pm and Monday at 7am. Both mares ovulated Monday and got post breeding infusions, Fingers crossed.

That gelding would find a really interesting career in one of the big outfits!

I tossed the idea around but tossed it out. I'd worry about him too much. In a strange way, he is what is sometimes referred to as my Heart horse - the horse I dreamed of but never found. Massive with big floaty way of going, a bright bay with a beautiful heart shaped star -- if only I wasn't so dang old...

Excellent news the bay mare, Gracia Directa has one nice fetus in there, by Raging Bull, on a Feb 20 cover!! Since she had aborted last year we also did a round of oxytocin for 3 days after the post breeding infusion and it really tightened her up! Nice CL, everything looks good. This mare, who was a Champion sprinter in Germany, is 15 yes old, spotty repro record, has some cysts and is, historically, a mare who goes 360 days in foal. She's the kind that I obsess over.

Grey mare Giveitsomewellie has all the solid signs we just couldn't spot the fetus will check again Thursday. It could have been hanging around the tube a bit longer. These maidens.
