Our first foal of 2006 arrived about 2:00 am this morning! The mare, Ground Queen, took on one cover January 31st, 2005 and so January 6th was her "due date".. talk about punctual. Of course I spent ALL day yesterday hovering anxiously over the mare, a maiden, who looked so imminent as to pop any second. Then, around 12:40 am, I crashed for a couple of hours and naturally, when I got back into the barn, there was a brand new filly, still wet. Mom needed a little relaxer shot to let the filly nurse; I guess the build up was so bad it sort of hurt and so I had to tranq her and then massage her, knock off the beads and start the milk. All told I spent about four hours in the stall with them; filly had three naps, four meals, etc. She got SO PLEASED with herself when she could get up on the first try she did it again and again and squealed a lot!

So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
