Painting? trying to find out if it is a significant race--

Postby tammysinnett » Sat Jun 17, 2006 9:42 pm

My father found an huge painting at an auction....its about 5 foot in length and 3 foot in height. You can see clearly two race horses coming towards you--the one on the right near the rail is a bay wearing blinders that are red and white checkered#3 on jockeys sleeve the one nose to nose is a darker bay jockey looks to be in a dark "pink" silk and has #4 on his sleeve. We can not read the signature on the bottom right corner. This painting was auctioned with two trophies that were from the sportsman club that used to be in Chicago (next door to Hawthorne) We are looking for any info about this painiting.....it may be one that hung in Sportsman???? it is an oil type painiting.

Is there any way you can post a photo of it? Maybe it will jog someone's memory.

I am working on getting a picture right now will post soon also can anyone remember a significant race where the 4 horse and 3 horse may have been neck and neck close to the finish?? the checkered blinders would that be a clue??or maybe the jockey silks may help us ?? or maybe someone just painted a race --I thought maybe it was a derby--how could I investigate??? thanks for any clues Tammy

It might be an amateur's rendition of a famous race. Then again it might just be paint slapped on a canvas - it resembles one of those commercial type mass produced prints found on sale in a shopping mall parking lot or street corner.

I don't consider it a quality piece of art work at all.

I figured it wasn't anything of a great painter--I was more interested in what race it may be representing?? just that sentimental thing....but thankyou anyway for letting us know its quality. I love it cause my dad gave it to me to put in my office of the new barn.
