New here. Looking for TB owners with DSLD

Postby djones612000 » Sun Jul 30, 2006 7:39 am

I purchased a 20yr old TB mare (Reg Blue Viking) in Feb this year. She has been showing all signs of DSLD waiting for confirmed dx from vet. Sired by Blue Eyed Davey and Fleetyear who were both from Nearco bloodlines. She did not have any successful race history and was never bred. I am not a TB owner professional in the sense of racing or breeding, just a middle aged women who wanted to purchase an older trail rider. Have a physical disability myself on both hips and cannot do anything but light trailing. Sam came to me from very good owners and still keep in touch with me. Her symptoms started a few weeks after her move to me, and have progressively worsened to the point that I have been advised by other DSLD horse owners not to ride her at all until dx confirmed.

My question is are any of you current owners with TB with DSLD and do any of you share in same blood lines. She is on this site. There are two Blue Vikings listed, she was born in 1986. Also trying to find out the owner of Blue Viking 2 born in 2001 a colt. Cant find any direct connetion between immediate sire or dams. Princequillo is in both bloodlines.

I am located in Huntington Beach, S. Ca.

Thanks to all

NOTE: DSLD = Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis

This is not a Thoroughbred-specific condition (the way HYPP is to Quarter Horses). There was a thread a year or so ago, someone had a very young horse they lost to DSLD.

You might get better results on the DSLD board at

It's incredibly sad that you offered a perfect home to your aged pal, only to have her stricken by something like that after only a few weeks.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

I have a saddle horse that was diagnosed with this condition last year. Thank you so much, Madelyn, for directing me to that support group.
