Racing today with the fillies at Keeneland, Silver Knockers. In Britain people would be falling on the floor laughing at that one.

Silver Knockers...

Postby TB Dreamin' » Sun Apr 08, 2007 10:29 am

 That reminds of the time we worked at a TB farm in New Zealand and I got bucked off of a young one and said "I landed on my fanny" and they said that was the funniest thing they'd ever heard of. I had NO  idea that fanny could mean something else...sigh.

Also, I wanted to add a few names of my own...Tight Package...ewww, still grosses me out, but I tell you, any guy that heard the name would say "Heh, heh, sure, I'll try her out!!!" (we were selling polo ponies at the time and every time I mentioned her registered name, the interest sure seemed to 'peak!')

I was also trying to think of "cute" names for a foal one time, a few years back, and I said "Mouse Pants" and my husband was like, "No Way!" and I looked it up and sure enough, it was already being used!!!! And they say, every body has a twin out their somewhere!

He won... was probably running fast to escape the snickers of the other horses.

Dingle Bay is a large ocean bay in County Kerry, Ireland. I don't see what is snicker-worthy about it.

Then there must be a lot of clueless folks in the world, because a simple Google search comes up with Supper Clubs, Country Stores, Golf courses, hunting preserves, etc. named Gobbler's Knob. In the Appalachians, a 'knob' is a rock outcrop that isn't covered by vegetation, while gobblers are wild turkeys.

"Knob" is also used to describe the same rock formations in the Ozarks, so it seems a pretty common term in the South.

I picked up a 2 year old at Churchill yesterday...

Groomed handed me the papers

"Rusty Bucket"

He got laughed at by the stall manager at Churchill, the gate security at Churchill AND the security at Arlington.

"Knob" is used to describe some interesting formations here in the North, as well. 8)

My Junior year of high school I met a guy named Kryn (Pronounced Crane) Van Loon. I told him I was new to the school, not the planet!
Funny thing, two years later, the girl who was to become his wife had nearly the exact same reaction I did!
Great guy, terrific family.

May the fleas of a thousand white tailed deer infest the armpits of whoever saw fit to bestow so horrendous a moniker on a poor unsuspecting horse. This name is worse than internet speak!

here's an extreme example of net speak gone horribly awry (particularly in the author's notes): http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2828044/1/
