Beulah Horses At Risk NO MORE
We've been notified that these two mares will go to the meat buyer if they're not purchased THIS WEEK. As the fall meet ends Dec. 22, I have no doubt this is true. We have moved their listings to the top of the listings page with a plea for help. Unfortunately, we don't have the funds to buy them or places to put them. Please help if you can!
Watrals Cutie Pie : Lovely 6-year-old bay mare about 15 hh with one rear sock and a stripe on her face. This girl lives up to her name! Quiet, no stall vices, has been turned out. Sound for any discipline. With her compact size and sweet disposition this girl would be an excellent youth prospect. Looking for a good home. Asking $1000 OBO. Contact Cheryl Carrillo at 231-215-0030. Stabled at Beulah Park. Here's her photo: http://www.canterusa.org/ohio/sale/images-salehorses/CutiePie.jpg
Sunshinespattycake : Kind, quiet 4-year-old dark bay mare, almost black. She is about 15.2 hh with a swirl and a snip on her face. Sunshine pulled her XYZ ligament so her racing career is over, but she should be fine for general riding. Needs a loving home and a new career. Asking $1000 OBO. Contact Cheryl Carrillo at 231-215-0030. Stabled at Beulah Park. Photo: http://www.canterusa.org/ohio/sale/images-salehorses/SunshinePattycakes.jpg
We'll be posting info on some more at-risk horses within a day, so keep checking back: http://www.canterusa.org/ohio/sale/trainerlistings.htm
Please spread the word! Thanks.

summerhorse wrote:Those are nice hunter prospects, stupid to send them to the meat man. But that OBO better mean like $400-500 since meat price is currently around $300-350 for that size horse.
It does. CANTER's policy is not to list a horse on the trainer listings for less than $800--safely above meat buyer price--since we don't know what kind of screening trainers will employ. But we will add OBO when the trainer indicates they'll accept less. I'm having the prices changed to $800 OBO.

An update on the Beulah Park mares....
Unable to stomach the cutsey names these girls are saddled with I HAD to give them names a bit more indicative of their posistion in life!
Cutie Pie's barn name is Amira, which means full of life.
Pattycakes barn name is Mesha, which means given life.
They are doing great. They have learned to walk on the Equiciser and were turned out in a small paddock for the first time today. We did give them a bit of tranq to help out but they were no trouble.....came out of their daze and happily poked around in the grass (well, mud, snow!).
Our vet will be out Wed. to check up on the XYZ ligament injury on Mesha, but she's completely sound and travels well on them (it is actually both front legs...surprise!).
Both are VERY sweet (though Amira is a bit unsure about people) and seem to adore each other, there is absolutely NO reason these girls don't deserve every chance at a second career away from the track.
I have to say that on Saturday morning when I walked in and saw them (knowing they should have been headed elsewhere) I couldn't help but be proud that Santa came early for two little girls!!!!
